Your child is in the 4th, 9th, or 11th grade - it's time to find out what the state graduate school will be in 2020, which of the students are waiting for serious changes in the format of exams, and what compulsory subjects graduates from junior, middle and high school will take.
Features GIA 2020
The upcoming 2019-2020 school year will be significant in that it will be the first school year in which all students from grades 1 to 11 will master programs that meet the new educational standard of the Federal State Educational Standard.
The complete transition of the education system to the new standard means that the State Final Attestation must undergo a number of changes in accordance with the new requirements.
In the 2019-2020 academic year, students have to go through three certification stages. Assess knowledge will be in 4, 9 and 11 classes. We suggest discussing the features and changes that will affect each of the mentioned GIA options.
USE 2020
The Unified State Exam is a form of control of the knowledge of high school graduates. This is the most important exam, the results of which are taken into account when entering Russian universities and give the right to enter the competition for budget places in universities through a single platform.
Everyone who graduates from the 11th grade in the 2019-2020 academic year should not be very worried, because the reform process of the Unified State Examination KIMs was launched even earlier and the task formats that exist today fully comply with the requirements of the Federal State Educational Standard. Moreover, at the end of 2018, Minister of Education Olga Vasilyeva announced that reforms in the USE field had reached their final stage and that there would be no fundamental changes in KIMs in the coming years.
Nevertheless, it will not be superfluous to follow the news and read the documentation on subjects presented on the FIPI website, because small changes are still possible. As a rule, adjustments will be made taking into account complaints about the wording of tasks received from graduates of previous years.
In 2020, 11th graders at the GIA have to take:
- final (December) essay, the result of which will be admission to the main exams;
- two required: math (base or profile) and Russian;
- one to choose according to the desired profile.
The increase in the number of compulsory subjects in 2020, which was so often mentioned in the media, has not yet been officially confirmed. Most likely, if history or a foreign language is made mandatory, then it is certainly not in 2020.
Among the subjects of choice, all the main disciplines will be preserved:
- foreign language: English, German, Spanish, French or Chinese;
- physics;
- chemistry (in a format with experiment or without);
- story;
- geography;
- computer science (using PC);
- biology;
- literature;
- social science.
As in previous years, the Unified State Exam will be held in three sessions.
Preliminary (for graduates of past years and those who for good reason will not be able to attend the main session) will begin in late March and will last until the second half of April.
Main (for most graduates) starts in the last week of May and ends in early July. The exam schedule for the main exam period for the 2019-2020 academic year will be as follows:
September retake will be held in the first month of autumn. But, the right to the last chance will be granted only to those who received an unsatisfactory result in one of the required subjects.
Thus, the average 11th grade graduate will have 3 attempts to pass the GIA in 2020: the main one, on a reserve day and in September. At the same time, retaking the math, the student can choose a basic level, even if for the first time he chose a profile.

OGE 2020
For children who in 2020 will have to pass the GIA in the 9th grade, there will be much more innovations and in the first place they will affect the structure of KIMs.
At the moment, one thing is certain for sure - in the 2019-2020 academic year, graduates of 9th grades will pass 4 exams (as in 2019).
Although in 2020 the number of OGE items did not officially increase, significant reforms are possible in the coming years. Which of the disciplines will be included in the “compulsory subjects” item, and which ninth-graders will be allowed to choose from the list of disciplines of the GIA-9 in the future is still unknown. Two options are possible:
- The number of compulsory disciplines will not change, but in addition to Russian and mathematics, 4 more disciplines will be required.
- Mandatory subjects will be 4 (English and the history of Russia will be added to mathematics and the Russian language), and 2 more can be chosen at one’s own discretion.
Also in 2020, the Unified State Examination in the Russian language will consist of two blocks - an interview (will be held in February as part of the admission to the GIA) and a written part.
Of course, this news will not please either teachers or graduates, but self-confident ninth-graders who claim “I will hand over GIA-9 in 2020 without preparation” will definitely become much less.
And to start preparing for GIA-9, everyone for whom the year 2020 will be considered an examination is to get acquainted with the main changes. Which will happen in KIMs in different subjects. Preliminary versions of KIMs with a detailed description of the changes have already been posted on the FIPI portal. If you need to read the specifications and codifiers in all disciplines there is no time or desire, find out the main news from our article on the changes in the Unified State Examination 2020.
Nevertheless, there is good news for those who will be handed over in 2020 GIA in grade 9:
- OGE will be held, as before, in the walls of native schools;
- all tasks of KIMs are developed in accordance with the school curriculum and will be the same for all regions of the Russian Federation;
- ninth-graders will receive two opportunities for retake (provided that an unsatisfactory result is obtained in no more than 2 subjects).

The schedule for the main period of the OGE 2020 will be as follows:
GIA-4 in 2020
Final attestation of graduates of primary schools is radically different from the formats described above. First of all, the assessment received for certification work does not affect the transfer of a child to grade 5!
In 2020, exams in 4 classes, as before, will be aimed at monitoring the quality of teacher work and the effectiveness of teaching in schools in different regions of the Russian Federation.
Last year, regardless of the region of residence and the training program, the guys passed 3 mandatory exams:
- math
- Russian language;
- the world.
Whether the number of disciplines submitted to the final control will increase in 2020 is still unknown. Previously, they voiced the position that, in 2020, new compulsory subjects should appear at GIA-4: literature, English and drawing. If the innovation is still accepted, then already in the 2019-2020 academic year, children will need to pass 6 exams.
But, parents should not worry ahead of time, because the format of such a GIA is no different from the usual test. As a rule, tasks are designed for one standard lesson lasting 45 minutes and require standard knowledge and practical skills from the child, which most kids will fully master by the end of the 4th grade.

The Ministry of Education once again draws the attention of teachers and parents that no additional training is provided for students at the school for GIA-4. The purpose of control is to understand how effective the work of the teacher was in the framework of the educational process.
The secret to passing exams in grade 4 is really simple - this is the correct psychological preparation of the child.
