Grade 4 exams in 2020

All schoolchildren of the Russian Federation pass obligatory final exams in the 4th grade, and in 2020 the final certification of graduates of the elementary school, which is often called the USE, will be held in standard mode. Introduced back in 2017, the Unified State Exam during the transition from the I to II level of education is subjected to strong criticism from the side of the parents, but it is not worth counting on its cancellation in the near future. The essence of the exam in grade 4

Discussing the upcoming certification, most parents voice the same question - “Why do we need exams for such young children?”

The introduction of the "children's exam" in the Ministry of Education and Science was explained by the need to monitor the success of graduates of elementary schools in different regions of Russia. The exam pursues several goals at once:

1. Collection of statistical data that will assess the quality of primary education in schools in the Russian Federation.
2. Motivation for the teacher to achieve maximum efficiency when working with children.
3. Motivation for students and parents to pay more attention to the subjects for which certification will be held.

Thus, if in the 11th grade the exam results are decisive for the student, then the primary school teacher and school administration are more worried about the results of final exams in 4 classes. For the teacher, this is a demonstration of the quality of his work, and for the administration, it is an opportunity to attract new students, using the high results that students show.

Important! In 2020, the USE results shown by a child in 4th grade are used solely for statistical purposes and do not affect the transfer of a student to grade 5 !!!

Format and features

Despite the fact that the final exams in the 4th grade are often called the Unified State Examination, in reality they are not at all similar to the certification offered for 11-graders. Parents should know these basic facts about the final certification when transferring from 4 to 5 grade:

1. The exam is held in the native school for the child and the native class (ideally, the children sit in their places two in two, as in a regular lesson).
2. The exam is carried out by the same teacher who read the subject in children throughout the entire period of study in elementary school.
3. There is one lesson to do the work - 45 minutes.
4. Tasks in their content and volume practically do not differ from the familiarity tests familiar to children.
5. All students, regardless of region of residence, will be offered the same tasks from a single bank, compiled taking into account GEF.

List of items

In 2020, graduates of the elementary school will take the following exams in the 4th grade:

1. Russian language;
2. maths;
3. natural history (the world).

Russian language

In the 4th grade, the exam in the Russian language involves 2 stages, and the coming 2020 will not be an exception.

Thus, the exam takes 2 lessons. But, the first and second part must be carried out on different days.

Maths

The form contains 11 tasks, solving which students will have to demonstrate knowledge on various topics studied in elementary school:

• Arithmetic operations (verbal calculation);
• solving problems of different difficulty levels (up to 4 actions);
• recognition of geometric shapes by their image;
• calculation of area and perimeter.

The world

The nature study form will contain 10 questions covering a wide range of topics studied by children over 4 years, from various safety rules to the name of the planets and basic facts about Russia (public holidays, position on the map, capital, culture, history, etc.)

But do not be scared, because most of the questions that are submitted to the exam are familiar to the kids. Practice shows that most children pass the test work on the subject “The World Outside” without much difficulty.

Possible changes

So far, there is no official information about any significant changes in the exam format in 2020, although there is still talk that exams in grade 4 should cover more subjects.

As in the State Academic Examination for grades 9 and 11, children can increase the number of compulsory subjects from 3 to 6. Among the possible disciplines that they plan to take on the exam, they call: a foreign language (most likely English), literature and drawing. But, given the fact that so far the official document has not been adopted, it can be said with a high degree of probability that in 2020 there will be only 3 exam papers at the end of grade 4, as in previous years.

Secrets of preparation

Unfortunately, what began as a test of the quality of the teacher’s work and the effectiveness of the teaching methodology as a whole, in many Russian schools has grown into a single goal for teachers and pupils of 4 classes.

How to understand that the issue at school is paid too much attention?

1. Talk about the upcoming exam does not subside throughout the school year.
2. Children and parents are frightened by an "unsuccessful exam."
3. Additional classes appear (and sometimes even paid training).

If the teacher worked well for 4 years, and the child mastered the program, receiving final grades from 3 to 5 (this is already given to someone), then no additional training is required to prepare for the exam. The teacher should pay special attention only to weak children, but this question no longer has anything to do with certification, but is a direct responsibility of the teacher.

When is a tutor needed?

1. The child is a lot and often sick.
2. Teachers often change in the classroom, which affects the level of teaching.
3. The kid has individual characteristics, because of which it is difficult for him to study in a classic collective format.

Just think about the need for additional classes, it is necessary not before exams, but at that stage when you find that the child does not understand the topic, cannot complete the task and needs the help of a tutor.

Conclusion

Psychologists agree that the level of stress in children at the stage of final exams directly depends on the behavior of the teacher and parents.

If children constantly feel pressure from the teacher, and parents at each opportunity, remember the child that "he will not pass the exam," then the student will constantly be in a stressful state. It is worth noting that many parents and teachers manage to create such negative conditions long before the end of 4th grade, frightening children with control, deuces for a poorly learned lesson, the prospect of "staying in the second year" and other "horror stories" that can discourage the desire to learn .

The best option would be if the children perceive the exam as a normal test work, without psychological pressure and forcing the importance of the moment.
