Will the Unified State Examination be Abolished in 2020

In anticipation of the next start-up company, graduates ask the same question - whether the USE will be canceled in 2020, so we decided to look in more detail whether there will be a cancellation this academic year and what the government and the Ministry of Education say about a similar prospect.

First of all, we hasten to upset those who still hoped that they would be able to avoid passing the Unified State Exam, because in the 2019-2020 academic year this form of quality control of knowledge will be preserved, and the USE certificate will still remain a prerequisite for entering Russian universities.

A vivid evidence that no major changes are foreseen in the system of assessing the knowledge of graduates is the official draft schedule of the exam for 2020.

So why do millions of people ask the same question every year? And why the government does not make concessions if the people do not like the GIA and all that is connected with it? Let's seek the truth.

Preconditions for the abolition of the exam

There is no smoke without fire. Talk that cancellation of the USE is nevertheless possible has been going on for a long time and the season 2019-2020 of the school year was no exception.

The fact that the exam system is not perfect, many openly say. Among the opponents of this form of final certification are not only parents and students whose position is quite clear, but also representatives of the education sector: teachers and employees of leading universities of the country.

Defending their position, supporters of the abolition of the exam, cite the following arguments:

1. In the graduating class, the learning process simply turns into a “coaching” of graduates on the necessary exam subjects.
2. Pupils of educational institutions in large cities and outback are in unequal conditions, although at the end of training they must cope with the same tasks.
3. The result of the exam depends on many factors and very often it is biased in relation to a particular child, depriving him of the opportunity for further education at a university.
4. Most 11th graders are undergoing tremendous stress, preparing for exams and at the time of the immediate passing of the exam.
5. There are techniques that allow you to cope with the tasks of the exam, without having thorough training in the subject, which often negligent students try to use.

The guys who have already had to deal with the "Unified State Exam" machine, accuse experts of understating points. Many also say that today the choice of a university from a conscious choice of a person has turned into a banal selection of places where there will be enough points scored according to the results of the exam. As a result, a person does not go where he really would like to study, but takes someone's place in a completely uninteresting, perhaps for him, industry, with which he will not connect his life in the future.

The number of opponents of the exam is gradually growing. The expected innovations, obviously, will only contribute to this, because most students are terrified of the need to take 4 compulsory subjects at once.

President's position

The opinion of Vladimir Putin is clear and indestructible - there will be a USE 2020! The president, like most supporters of the exam, believes that only in this way can three main problems of the educational sphere be solved:

1. Improve the teaching of subjects.
2. Encourage students to be more responsible for the learning process.
3. To select the most capable applicants in the country's universities.

Vladimir Putin believes that the Unified State Exam system eliminated corruption in the country's universities and equalized the chances of university entrants from provinces and large cities joining universities. The main task is to prepare for the exam and master the subject at the proper level.

But what to do for children whose subject is not taught “at the proper level” due to the teacher’s low qualifications or the absence of a qualified specialist at school (and such situations are not uncommon in villages). It all depends on the parents and their willingness to invest money and time in the future of a son or daughter. Practice shows that the leadership in the effectiveness of passing the exam will undoubtedly remain with the elite educational institutions of large megacities. Although, quite a large number of really smart guys from the province, they successfully enter universities every year, receiving fairly high scores at the exam.

Ministry Position

In 2019, the Ministry of Education and Science reorganized, as a result of which two new departments were formed:

• Ministry of Education;
• Ministry of Science and Higher Education.

In fact, the question “will the USE be abolished in 2020” should be addressed to Olga Vasilyeva, as the head of the Ministry of Education, in charge of general and secondary special education.

Of the numerous speeches by Vasilyeva, her position, like the official position of the Ministry, is more than clear - the USE is an effective system for checking the quality of knowledge, and no one will cancel it.

Moreover, already in 2020, all those who are interested in whether the USE will be canceled will receive news - exams will not only not be abolished, but will increase their number. So, in the coming years, the following are planned to be added to the list of compulsory subjects:

• English language;
• a story.

They plan to introduce English into the number of required languages, because today any specialist, regardless of industry, must speak the international language to communicate with employers, foreign employees of the company, partners, sponsors or customers.

The question of history is even more acute, because the Ministry considers it unacceptable that many graduates are not able to answer the simplest questions about the history of Russia. Knowing that the subject does not have to be passed on the exam, high school students often dishonestly study it and, as a result, replenish the army of people who do not know their own history.
