The Czech Republic, the birthplace of professional hockey player Jaromir Jagr, received the right to host the youth hockey world championship in 2020. Already 44 times athletes crossed their clubs in the fight for the title of world champion among youth teams. Ten strongest teams will take part in the tournament. The IIHF Hockey Federation has already announced where and when the competition will take place.
Time and place
For youth ice hockey games, the doors of the best Czech stadiums will open. Games will be held in two cities of the Czech Republic.
The multifunctional sports and cultural complex ČEZ Arena (ČEZ) located in the city of Ostrava for the third time will meet the teams of the World Cup participants. The ChEZ sports arena is equipped with the latest technology. The capacity of the stadium during hockey is 10109 seats. In special cases, it is possible to increase the number of spectators to 12500. The second tier above the stands are VIP-boxes and skyboxes. The latter are designed for 20 people each and offer a gorgeous, panoramic view of the ice field. In comfortable rooms individual climate control systems, satellite TV, WI-FI are installed. In addition to the ice arena, the complex has a hotel, many restaurants, cafes, gyms and massage rooms.
The second city was chosen a small but cozy Trshinets, located on the banks of the Olsha River. For hockey players there will be a universal sports arena Werk. This is one of the best stadiums in the Czech Republic, where technical equipment and comfort meet all international requirements. The newest construction complex in 2014 accommodates about 5,000 people.
The International Hockey Federation has decided not only on the venue of the championship, but also on the date. The youth tournament will be held traditionally at the junction of the outgoing and upcoming years. The first matches of the World Hockey Championship will be held on December 26, 2019, and it will end on January 5, 2020. For Russians, it has become customary to root for the “youth team” on New Year's holidays.
Recall that the 2018-2019 World Hockey Championship was held in Canada. The champion title was defended by the Finnish national team. Beating the US youth team with a score of 3: 2, hockey players rightfully became champions of the 2019 FIFA World Cup. Americans for the second time in the history of the FIFA took silver medals from the tournament with them. Russia in the fight for third place defeated the youth of Switzerland with a score of 5: 2. This bronze award was the ninth in the history of games. Mistress of the championship - Canada for the first time in history was left without medals in the home championship.
Game Schedule
Competitions of the U20 World Youth Championship will begin with the group part. At the first stage, teams divided into two groups will play one game with each other within their group. The group round will be held from December 26 to December 31, 2019. According to the results of the first round, according to the regulations, four teams will pass. They will play among themselves in the consolation tournament on January 2, 2020. Following a consolation match, the losing team will leave the first division. Semifinal, final and match for third place will be held on January 4 and 5, respectively.

In 2019, the teams will play each other in quintets, and in 2020 they will fight with national squads from another group. At the 35th tournament of the World Youth Championship, held in the USA, the guys defeated the youth of Canada in the final with a score of 5: 3.
However, as always, the outcome of the games can be completely unpredictable. So, at the World Cup in 2019, the strongest Canadian team left the tournament almost immediately. Russian hockey players at the last championship showed a high-quality team game. This was noted by both the organizers of the World Cup and the first vice president of the FHR, Roman Rotenberg. The coach Oleg Bragin was also pleased with the game of hockey players. Young players took third place, defeating Switzerland. Bragin noted that in the confrontation with the United States, the players expected more. After the defeat, some of them could not hold back their tears. Nevertheless, young hockey players showed an excellent game, the coach summed up. According to him, Russia has every chance to become a winner in the championship in 2020.
