Telluride is the new flagship car of the South Korean concern Kia mass production, which starts in 2019. The crossover stands out for its size and was created with an eye on major sales in North America, where such cars are very popular.
In this regard, the development of Telluride was carried out in the California technical center of the company, and production will begin at the American assembly acceptance Kia, located in Georgia.
The main competitors of the news include the following full-size crossovers:
- Honda Pilot;
- Toyota Highlander;
- Ford Explorer
- Hyundai Palisade;
- Subaru Ascent;
- Volkswagen Atlas.
The concern made an official presentation of the car in January of this year during an auto exhibition in Detroit.
Exterior
The appearance of the Kia Telluride 2019-2020 correspond to large sizes and is characterized by power and sophistication.
To create such a design, the company's specialists applied:
- huge, practical direct compote, with a pair of powerful longitudinal ribs;
- 3D-patterned radiator grill;
- LED vertical head optics, with built-in lines of daylight;
- front bumper with integrated fog lights and rectangular duct openings;
- Stylish L-shaped LED taillights;
- inclined rear pillars;
- powerful and perfectly round wheel arches;
- wide side doors with large windows;
- high and straight roof;
- sweeping tailgate;
- twin trapezoidal exhaust diffusers;
- large rear bumper with a patch panel.
Improved cross-country ability is indicated by increased ground clearance, unpainted plastic body kit, large wheels and body geometry.
Interior
The Kia Telluride showroom, shown in numerous photos from the past auto show, looks modern, has comfort and high-quality architecture.
To obtain such parameters, the following solutions were used:
- anatomical chairs;
- multi-function steering wheel;
- wide tunnel with two cup holders and compact transmission controls;
- rectangular center console with a built-in monitor of the multifunctional complex;
- digital instrument panel with a special protective visor;
- long and narrow front air conditioner vents.
In the interior design used leather, plastic, carpet, light trim.
Salon crossovers received two versions:
- eight-seater, scheme 2 + 3 + 3;
- seven-seater, scheme 2 + 2 + 3.
In the first case, in the middle row there is one continuous sofa, and in the second case, two separate highly comfortable chairs are used.

Under the hood, a LAMBDA-II engine with the following technical characteristics is used:
- type - gasoline;
- number of cylinders - 6;
- arrangement of cylinders - V-shaped;
- volume - 3.80 l;
- power - 295.0 l. from.
The plans of the Korean concern in the future to use a hybrid engine as a power unit.
For the basic modification, front-wheel drive is used, an all-wheel drive version is additionally possible, with this option, the rear wheels are switched on thanks to the multi-plate clutch. Regardless of the drive, the transmission has an 8-band automatic transmission. Also in the chassis settings provides a choice of several options for movement depending on the condition of the road. In addition, the crossover is capable of transporting a trailer weighing up to 2.27 tons.
The design features include the widespread use of special ultra-strong steel, which allows to improve the strength and reliability of the crossover, as well as the use of independent suspension, which increases the car's cross-country ability and comfort in the cabin.
Equipment and systems
As befits the flagship Kia Telluride 2019-2020 received a wealth of equipment to ensure high operational safety, high-quality comfort in the cabin and confident traffic on various roads. Among the most interesting systems, solutions and devices are:
- fully LED optics;
- seven curtains and airbags;
- multi-function steering wheel;
- audio system with 10 speakers;
- all-round visibility;
- dead zone monitor sensors;
- controllers automatic movement in a stream and braking;
- three-zone cruise control;
- 22-inch wheels
- folding foot pads in the cabin;
- climate control;
- upper deflectors for HVAC equipment for rear passengers;
- wireless charging;
- two USB sockets on each row of seats;
- information and multimedia complex;
- projection display;
- mounted monitors for passengers;
- collision avoidance controllers;
- interactive key;
- parking assistant;
- LED interior lighting with adjustable brightness and the ability to choose a color scheme.
The company will present the final list of equipment and available options closer to the start of sales, and in total four options for completing the car are planned.
Price and start of sales
Starting sales of the new Kia Telluride 2019-2020 model year will begin in North America, and the price for the basic version of the car will be $ 32.00 thousand. After that, a full-sized crossover will go to Europe and the Asian market. Telluride will get to Russian motor shows in early 2020.
