The Patriot SUV (UAZ-3163 factory index) replaced the Simbir model in the 2005 production line of the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant. The new all-wheel drive car received a frame structure, a five-door all-metal body, a front-engine layout and could be operated not only on various roads, but also in off-road conditions, as well as on rough terrain.
Among the main advantages that distinguishes the Patriot, it should be considered:

The Volga company is constantly making improvements to the design of the model, and the most ambitious updates were made in 2014 and 2016. The development and further release of the new UAZ Patriot 2020 model is designed to make the SUV more modern while maintaining the main advantages of the car.
Exterior
According to preliminary information provided by the company, as well as the publications of some automotive publications, it should be noted that there will be no radical changes in the external image of the UAZ Patriot 2020 model year. The design of the updated car will continue to reflect the power and confidence of a classic SUV. To achieve this result, the following solutions are planned:
- the use of straight lines in the construction of the roof and hood, and in addition, an almost vertical tailgate;
- installation of powerful bumpers and protruding, almost square wheel arches;
- horizontal stamping on the side doors and wings;
- the use of a large grille, large head optics, side steps and wide glazing.
Off-road properties of the updated modification will emphasize the following parameters:
- high ground clearance;
- geometric characteristics of the body;
- special protective panels, as well as special inserts in the wheel arches.
The appearance of the modernized car will become easily recognizable due to the lack of a spare wheel on the tailgate. Despite the fact that the reserve will be moved to the bottom of the trunk, at the moment, the UAZ Patriot 2020 concept largely preserves the appearance of the current version of the SUV.
Interior
Inside the novelty, the manufacturer also does not plan to conduct significant updates.
Inside, they continue to look interesting:
- multifunctional three-spoke steering wheel;
- the center console with large diffusers of HVAC equipment and a tilted touch panel multimedia complex;
- convenient handrails for boarding (exit) passengers;
- shift paddles;
- light inserts;
- door armrests with control keys.
In the interior decoration of the new UAZ Patriot 2020, inexpensive, but high-quality and practical materials will prevail: fabric, plastic, carpet. For the most charged versions of the SUV, interior design using genuine leather, suede and velor will be available.
Internal comfort will be improved through the use of special sound-absorbing panels, as well as the possibility of tilting the backs of the rear seats.
Technical parameters and equipment
To complete UAZ Patriot 2020 with power units, it is planned to use three gasoline engines:

With these motors will be installed: a new six-speed manual transmission or the first five-speed automatic for UAZ.
As for the suspension, the front will be an independent spring, and the rear will be an independent spring.
Important changes will occur in the transmission of an SUV. Instead of the existing hard-wired all-wheel drive, it is planned to use a permanent four-wheel drive (full-time) with the installation of a transfer case. Changes in the transmission and the installation of more powerful motors will lead to the modernization of the brake system. Now the rear drum-type brakes will become disc. The front suspension of the car will be multi-link independent, and instead of the rear springs, the installation of springs is planned.
Energy-absorbing sections will appear in the device of the power frame of the SUV, which will increase the safety of the car. Also, to reduce vibration when mounting some units on the frame, special dampers will be used.
The frame side members will have a widened section, and the frame will fold in the event of an accident, absorbing impact energy.
The list of systems and equipment for the new UAZ Patriot 2019-2020 has been significantly expanded. Among the most interesting devices can be identified:
- LED optics;
- front airbags;
- climate control;
- preheater;
- additional heater for passengers;
- multimedia complex;
- parking sensors;
- all-round visibility;
- navigation equipment;
- driver assistance systems (ESP, ABS, ESP, TCS, CBC);
- keyless access;
- electric power steering;
- electronic locking rear differential;
- 18 inch wheels
- winter package.
The manufacturer will present a complete list of available equipment, as well as additional options immediately before the start of the SUV.
Start of production and cost
The appearance of a new UAZ Patriot model is scheduled for mid-2020. Traditionally, the company presents a variety of complete sets of an SUV, from a budget version to premium equipment. The estimated price of the basic modification will be 800 thousand rubles. and the most top-end option is 1.40 million rubles.
