Teacher's Day 2020

Teacher's Day 2020

Teacher's Day 2020 is a special holiday. On this day, we honor those who not only help to gain knowledge, but teach life, and serve as an example for children.

What date is marked

With the date of the holiday, confusion arises annually. The fact is that some time ago the celebration had an unfixed, floating date - the first October Sunday. In modern Russia, the holiday coincides with the international World Teachers ’Day, World Teachers' Day. It is celebrated on October 5.

In 2020, Teacher's Day falls on Monday, October 5th.

When will teacher's day be in 2020

Included in the list of professional, memorable days, is not a weekend (except in cases where the holiday falls on Sunday).

Appearance story

The opinions of historians differ and therefore there are two versions of the appearance of the holiday.

Version one

The Russian holiday is the successor to the old Soviet Teacher’s Day, celebrated in the USSR on the first Sunday of October since 1965. The founder of the new event at that time was the Presidium of the Supreme Council, initiated by a group of distinguished educators, supported by journalists.

The holiday ceased its official existence with the collapse of the USSR, but until 1994 it was annually celebrated in all schools of the country on the same day - the first October day off. Although it would be more correct to say - on the previous weekend of Friday: on this day the students congratulated their favorite teachers, gave them bouquets and souvenirs, parents often joined in the congratulations.

Since 1994, the triumph has found a fixed date - October 5. In the opinion of the average person, there were no significant changes - and until this year the events took place at about the same time. So the change in the date of the celebration was almost imperceptible.

Second version

World Teachers' Day appeared more than a quarter century ago: in 1994, UNESCO instituted a new holiday in honor of all educators, from teachers of preschool groups to professors and lecturers of universities. The date for the new event was chosen in memory of an important event for teachers - the adoption of the Recommendation "On the Status of Teachers" on October 5, 1966.

At an international conference held in Paris in 1966, for the first time not just global issues of education were raised. Participants in the congress spoke about the legal status of those who help in acquiring knowledge - teachers. According to lecturers from different countries, a significant difference was found in the social and financial situation of teachers. Some speakers asked UNESCO representatives to eliminate existing discrimination.

In addition, a significant difference in the training of teachers for children of different age groups was revealed. The adopted resolution draws attention to both aspects of activity, simultaneously addressing several more issues. In fact, the Recommendation was the first international document outlining the role of those who work in the field of education, and its importance in society.

This day in other countries of the world

Everyone knows about how Teacher’s Day is celebrated in Russia — these are festive concerts prepared by the students themselves, flowers, souvenirs presented to class teachers and beloved “subject books”. In the CIS countries - Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Belarus, Ukraine - the traditions are almost identical. But World Teachers' Day is an international holiday, which means it is celebrated in other states, and far from everywhere it falls on October 5th.
