Ramadan in 2020

Ramadan in 2020

In 2020, traditionally Ramadan will be one of the most important months for Muslims. This is a period of prohibitions and restrictions, a time for cleansing the soul, spiritual enrichment and development. This is an opportunity to approach Allah and repent of earthly sins. This is one of the pillars of Islam. And although believers have to abide by strict prohibitions, they are waiting for this month to come. After it comes a bright holiday - Uraza Bayram.

When it will be

Ramadan is the ninth month in the Muslim calendar. Since the eastern peoples professing Islam use the lunar cycle calendar, its date changes from year to year in relation to the Gregorian calendar. This is due to the fact that the difference between the Gregorian and Muslim calendar is 10 days.

What date begins and ends Ramadan in 2020, all Muslims know, since it is one of the foundations of Sharia. Traditions and customs are strictly adhered to by all believers except those who are contraindicated to fast.

Important! In 2020, Ramadan will last from April 24 to May 23. Fasting begins at dawn and continues until dusk. After the sun disappears below the horizon on May 23, all restrictions will be lifted.

Main traditions

Ramadan is the most important period of the year for Muslims. This month, the first message from Allah, which entered the Qur'an, came down to the Prophet Muhammad. Eastern peoples observe customs and adhere to traditions that have been formed over centuries. The month is dedicated to bodily and spiritual cleansing. Believers argue that it makes no sense to limit yourself to food, drink and carnal pleasure, if you do not pay due attention to spiritual purification.

Muslims observe several important rules:

  1. Be sure to read the Quran. Read the entire Holy Book for Ramadan is considered a charitable deed.
  2. They pray a lot. Read prayers not only in the morning or in the evening, but also in the afternoon. It’s important to do it sincerely, with all my heart.
  3. It is necessary to do good deeds, to help poor people and to give alms.

Any deeds and good deeds should come from a pure heart. Otherwise, good deeds and prayers make no sense.

Fast

Ramadan is often called the time of testing faith and firmness of spirit, since all Muslims fast. Islamic fasting is significantly different from Christian fasting, as it has no prohibitions on food, but there are time limits. It is allowed to eat meat, with the exception of pork, which Muslims do not eat at all.

During the post you can not:

  • consume food, water and other drinks from dawn to dusk;
  • smoke and drink alcohol;
  • intends to induce vomiting or an enema;
  • give injections with nutrients without a doctor's prescription;
  • have sexual intercourse;
  • intentionally cause ejaculation;
  • hug, kiss or stare at women.

Prayers in Ramadan

It is also worth abandoning visits to entertainment venues, listening to music, dancing, watching TV and other entertainment. Free time should be given to prayers and thoughts about life.

Important! During Ramadan, it is not forbidden to give injections if prescribed by a doctor, as well as try food, but do not swallow, for example, when cooking.

Usually a fasting day goes according to a certain “scenario”:

  1. Morning begins with niyat - intention. Each believer pronounces the words, which are translated from Arabic means "I intend to perform the fast of Ramadan in the name of Allah." If you do not pronounce niyat, fasting is not observed.This day a person must compensate - to fast on another day or give alms to the needy.
  2. Then follows Suhur - morning meal. Breakfast must be before sunrise. It is not necessary to observe Suhur, but it is desirable, since you have to spend the whole day without food and drink.
  3. Then follows the morning prayer - fajr, after which fasting begins, that is, you can not drink and eat.
  4. After sunset, all Muslims pray again. An evening prayer is called a maghrib.
  5. After prayer, you are allowed to eat food. Iftir (evening conversation) begins with water and several dates. After you can eat fully, but to postpone the meal until later.
  6. Before going to bed, believers once again pray and thank Allah for the past day.

Dates

And although the restrictions apply only during the day, this does not mean that you can overeat at night. The Qur'an states that eating should be enough to maintain the strength of the body. It is worth abandoning the sweet, fatty, fried, smoked.

In eastern countries, the beginning and end of Ramadan is usually notified with a loud sound. This tradition will continue in 2020. Most often they shoot from a cannon, although in Egypt they use drums to alert.

Who should fast

All believers abide by the limitations of Ramadan. Despite strict rules, there are certain contraindications. You can not observe the post:

  • mentally ill people;
  • travelers who are away from home;
  • for old people, if the restriction in food and water can negatively affect their health;
  • pregnant mothers;
  • children (fasting until the age of 7 is strictly forbidden, for older children, depending on the state of health and other factors);
  • women during critical days.

It is also worth giving up fasting for health problems. Nursing mothers can adhere to Ramadan, if this does not threaten their health and the health of the child. If a person has contraindications for fasting, he should give alms to the poor.
