Students graduating from grade 9 at the GIA-9 in the 2019-2020 academic year are expected to pass 4 subjects and it is not surprising that in addition to the two required, graduates will try to find a couple more disciplines, the preparation for which will seem to them the easiest. Among these, according to schoolchildren, is the OGE in geography, which in 2020 will be affected by large-scale changes announced by the FIPI last spring. Recall that previously the subject was chosen by about 35% of ninth graders.
So, we propose to discuss what will be the date of the OGE on geography and what will change in the KIMs of 2020, because it is from acquaintance with the innovations that it is worth starting the preparation.
Dates
Geography tests within the framework of the main session of GIA-9 in 2020 will take place on such days:
Main day | Reserve |
May 29, 2020 Friday | June 22, 2020 Monday |
June 29, 2020 Friday | |
July 1, 2020 Wednesday |
The dates of the preliminary period, as well as the schedule of autumn retakes for graduates of 9th grades, will be approved by FIPI in early November 2019.
Exam format
Although there will be several innovations in the tickets of the new sample adapted to the requirements of the GEF 2010 standard, no significant changes are expected in the general format of the GIA-9 in the subject of “geography”.
At the Unified State Examination in Geography in 2010 modules will be introduced that are studied from grades 5 to 9, namely:
- geography;
- geography;
- physical geography;
- geography of Russia.
Given that the 8–9 grade program acquaints students with the geography of their native land, and in the exam they have to answer questions related to other continents and countries, it is really unlikely to pass the subject without thorough preparation.
Among the main nuances of the exam can be identified:
- duration - 150 minutes (2.5 hours);
- location - native educational institution;
- allowed to use - ruler, non-programmable calculator and atlases.
So why is geography considered one of the simplest subjects of GIA-9? The answer is simple - in the course of the work, examiners are allowed to use atlases for grades 7, 8 and 9. Moreover, graduates can bring this source of information with them to the exam. Accordingly, having learned to quickly find the necessary information in the atlas, you can significantly simplify the task for yourself.
The exact dates of the preliminary, main and autumn session of the OGE 2020 will be known closer to the beginning of November 2019.
Major changes
The large-scale reform of GIA-9, which affected all subjects in 2020, did not pass by the OGE in geography. In the new KIMs, graduates will meet both questions well familiar from the demo versions of previous years and completely new tasks.
First of all, the exam will be aimed at testing the practical skills of using geographical knowledge and the ability to work with different formats of information.
The number of tasks in the tickets will not change. In 2020, as in 2019. graduates have to answer 30 questions.
Among the innovations introduced by FIPI in KIM for geography on geography in 2020, we can single out - an increase in the number of tasks with a free answer and a completely new task for plotting.
The distribution of the number of questions among the main educational blocks also did not receive significant changes.
№ | Section | Number of questions |
1 | Continents, oceans, countries and peoples | 2 |
2 | Environmental management, ecology | 2 |
3 | Earth nature and man | 6 |
4 | Information sources | 7 |
5 | Geography of Russia | 13 |
As you can see, special attention is paid specifically to the geography of Russia and the ability to work with different types of sources of geographical information.
At the same time, of the 30 questions, the distribution by level of complexity will be as follows:
- basic - 15;
- increased - 13;
- high - 2.
Grading
Maximum graduates who graduate from grade 9 in 2020 will be able to score 31 points at the OGE in geography (in 2019 there were 32 points).
In the specifications for KIMs FIPI sets the following distribution of the maximum score:
Score | Tasks |
1 | 1-11, 13-30 |
2 | № 12 |
Accordingly, it is recommended that examinees devote approximately 3-5 minutes to solving simple questions, and about 12 minutes to solve 12 problems.
Further, the points accrued for the performance of individual tasks are summarized and transferred to a 5-point assessment using the correspondence table developed by the FIPI:
Score | Rating |
26-31 | 5 |
19-25 | 4 |
12-18 | 3 |
0-11 | 2 (did not pass) |
Since the innovations of 2020 are still under discussion, insignificant shifts within 1-2 points are also possible in the final version of the table.
Training
How deep will be the preparation of the ninth grader for the OGE in geography, largely depends on what goals the graduate sets himself in 2020.
If the subject is selected on the principle of “I would be easier”, and the main task is to pass and calmly go to the usual 10th grade of your native school, then you should pay attention first of all to questions of a basic level that will allow you to score the required minimum of 12 points. Statistics say that only about 1% of graduates of grade 9 receive an unsatisfactory result the first time. At the same time, most of them still pass the item on the second attempt.
If the mark of the certificate matters and in all subjects of the OGE 2020 the graduate intends to get "5", then it is worth taking the preparation more seriously, because geography also has its "pitfalls".
So, we offer TOP-3 tips from experienced tutors:
Tip number 1. Your atlas
Start by looking for good atlases for grades 7, 8, and 9. A prerequisite - the materials must be recommended by the ministry. But, all atlases are different. Look for the most informative and most importantly, those with which you will be most comfortable working. But remember that there should not be any additional inscriptions and signs in the cards that you take with you on the OGE.
Tip number 2. Theory
It is not surprising that by the 9th grade topics you studied several years ago may be forgotten. Quick reference books or short video clips on the main topics will help to restore the basic terms and concepts on topics in memory. Can. Of course, school textbooks should also be used, but in this case, a much larger amount of information will have to be worked out.
Tip number 3. Problem solving
Check out all last year’s options and OGE geo-demo 2020. The more you decide, the more confident you will feel at the exam. In this case, pay attention to new tasks. in particular at No. 13 (plotting). If its implementation will cause questions or difficulties, look at the analysis of the solution of the demo version on the Internet.
A more detailed analysis of each of the tasks presented in the demo version of the OGE 2020 by geography, we offer to see in this video:
