The Russian and Soviet passenger car Niva (another designation VAZ-2121 until 2006, and Lada 4 × 4 at present) is a small class SUV with permanent all-wheel drive and a load-bearing body, the mass production of which began at the Volga Automobile Plant in the spring of 1977.
For the first time in a car it was possible to combine the high cross-country ability of an all-wheel drive car with the comfort of a passenger car.
Other distinctive features of the domestic news should include:
- appearance (at the initial stage of release);
- wide unification with VAZ production cars;
- maintainability;
- affordable cost.
High maneuverability was provided not only by all-wheel drive, but also by high clearance, off-road wheels, low gears, an interaxle differential with the possibility of forced locking.
The listed advantages of the car, together with various improvements constantly implemented by the company, allowed the model to be in demand and remain on the conveyor even in the current period. But, despite this, AvtoVAZ plans to establish production of the next generation SUV Niva 2020.
Exterior
The planned image of the new Niva 4x4 model of the 2020 model year, AvtoVAZ showed at the Moscow Motor Show in late summer 2018.
It should immediately be noted that despite the compact size, the novelty initially received a five-door body. But this solution, most likely, does not exclude the possibility of creating a three-door version. In the design of the car, the designers tried to combine the branded details of the current model range of VAZ cars with the features of the exterior of the legendary car.
In the existing X-shaped style are made:
- huge front stamps;
- headlights;
- Combined rear lights;
- light edging of the front bumper.
In addition, the upper rails and large aerodynamic side mirrors look interesting on the car.
The features of the old model are indicated by:
- horizontally located taillights;
- vertical grille;
- turn signals mounted on the hood;
- ventilation holes in the rear pillars.
The following details show the off-road properties of the novelty:
- body geometry;
- significant ground clearance;
- protective panels in the front and rear of the car;
- lower body kit;
- inserts in wheel arches.
In general, the external image of the new generation of Niva in 2020 turned out to be charismatic and brutal, with a combination of elements of modern AvtoVAZ passenger cars and the Lada 4 × 4 SUV.
Interior
In contrast to the exhibition models of cars of other manufacturers, AvtoVAZ presented not only a photo, but also a variant of the new Niva SUV model 2020 with a detailed interior.
The following solutions look very interesting in the completed interior design of the novelty:
- multi-function steering wheel with two support zones;
- Anatomical front seats with strong lateral support and head restraints;
- step design of the center console with glove compartment;
- dashboard in the form of a high-resolution color display with a special anti-glare peak;
- large screen multimedia complex;
- wide central tunnel with massive car chassis controls;
- large air conditioner vents.
The decoration uses plastic, fabric, carpet. The use of a two-tone design and a large number of light fringing of a number of details gives the interior an individual look.
Technical specifications
The presented sample of the new model uses the B0 platform. On this platform, the European version of the second generation Renault Duster is produced. Such a solution will make it possible for a new passenger car to have a front-wheel drive transmission with the ability to connect rear wheels using a multi-plate clutch. But some automotive experts do not exclude the development and further production of the Niva modification of the 2020 model year with permanent all-wheel drive and a lowering multiplier.
The four-cylinder HR16 gasoline engine from the Xray crossover with a capacity of 106.0 liters is considered as the main power unit. from. and a volume of 1.6 liters.
Currently known about the following equipment and systems designed to equip a car:
- head optics and rear multi-function lights in LED design;
- fog lights and running lights;
- 21 inch wheels;
- exterior mirrors with integrated turn indicators;
- rear spoiler;
- multifunction steering wheel;
- navigation system with 3D maps;
- audio system;
- two airbags;
- all-round visibility;
- emergency braking;
- steering gear with adjustable column;
- CVT;
- full power accessories;
- Cruise control;
- 12V socket;
- electric rear door;
- additional illumination of entrance-exit zones in the doors;
- special set of options for winter.
A complete list of available equipment and options will be formed as the release date of the new Niva 2020 approaches.
Start of release
The company plans to begin production of new items in the second half of 2020. However, the company does not exclude the possibility of postponing the start of production depending on the sales volume of Lada 4 × 4.
At a price, the new Niva in 2020 will become more expensive than the currently produced Lada SUV (according to preliminary estimates, almost twice), but it will be cheaper than the Russian-made Renault Duster model.
