Rest time from studying at the university is a great opportunity to spend time with relatives and friends, to go on a trip to the cities of Russia and abroad. Information about when students will have vacations in 2019-2020 and by what principle they are established will help plan future pastime. Yesterday's schoolchildren will have to get used to the fact that there will be no more autumn or spring holidays, only winter and summer holidays will remain.
General rules
There are certain conditions approved at the level of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation that must be observed when creating a vacation schedule in educational institutions of the country, including among students. Their duration is regulated by Order of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation No. 301 “On Approving the Procedure for Organization and Implementation of Educational Activities for Higher Education Educational Programs - Bachelor's, Specialty, and Master's Programs” dated 04/05/2017. According to the document of the Ministry of Education and Science, the length of the rest time depends on the duration of the training and may be:
- within 7-10 weeks - for training lasting more than 39 weeks;
- within 3-7 weeks - for training lasting 12-39 weeks;
- up to 2 weeks - for training lasting up to 12 weeks.
Thus, for most students studying full-time or part-time, the holidays in 2019-2020 will last 7-10 weeks, of which at least two weeks should be in winter.
On a note! The indicated duration of vacation periods is calculated without taking into account non-working holidays, which also should not be any educational activity.
Each educational institution establishes and approves its own educational process schedule, where periods of study and rest are distributed in such a way that they comply with established standards. As a rule, a school year consists of two semesters, each of which ends with a session (winter and summer) and the following holidays. For those who were not able to successfully pass the session the first time and need to tighten the "tails" will have to do this to the detriment of the length of the vacation. The leadership of the university determines the timing for the transfer of debt. This period may occur in January (at the end of the winter session), as well as the first couple of weeks of September.
Winter holidays
For university students, the winter holidays will be the only respite during the 2019-2020 year of study. They do not have a strictly established framework and may differ among students of different educational institutions. Dates and durations are set individually by management. The winter session remains common for everyone, which usually starts in the last days of December and lasts up to 2-3 weeks depending on the curriculum. Moreover, the schedule for the winter session and vacations may differ even for different faculties of the same university.
Passed tests and exams on time - the opportunity to go on a well-deserved vacation lasting at least 2 weeks, usually from mid or late January. In many universities, winter holidays will fall from January 25 to February 7-9, 2020. Some schools have established a pre-New Year session to combine student holidays with traditional winter holidays. Students in this case will have the opportunity to relax for up to three weeks.In addition, many nonresident students take admission to take exams ahead of schedule in order to go on vacation for their whole city for a month. In this case, they will rest longer than the established dates.
On a note! All educational institutions operate in accordance with the production calendar, where the dates from January 1 to 8 are approved as non-working. Regardless of the session schedule and the success of the exams, these days, students, like all residents of Russia, receive legal rest. It is likely that in 2020 all Russians will rest until January 12th.
Summer rest
Students' summer holidays in 2020 will also begin in different ways. The traditional option is the delivery of the summer session in June, and from July until September, the long-awaited time for rest from study begins. The indicated dates apply only to freshmen. Depending on the university and specialty, after 2-3 courses, practice is added in July or August for a duration of 2-4 weeks. In most cases, the new year of study begins on September 1, but the academic council of educational institutions is allowed to set different dates for starting studies, shifting them no more than 2 months.
Separately, it is worth highlighting universities with special systems of periods of study and rest. For example, in some cases, a summer session may take place in May, and practice in parallel with studies in September. Thus, vacation time lasts three months.
All dates of the beginning and end of the holidays for students in 2019-2020 are approximate and will be adjusted by each university individually. The exact information about the periods of study and rest can always be obtained at the dean’s office or on the website of your educational institution.
