The exam in social studies has been the leader among the disciplines of the choice of GIA-11 for more than a year, and 2020 will not be an exception. To everyone who plans to take over the society, we suggest that today we familiarize ourselves in detail with what the structure of KIM will be, what changes are possible, how training should be organized and when exactly (date) the test for graduates will pass in the 2019-2020 academic year.
Who needs a certificate in social studies?
The popularity of the exam in social studies is due to the fact that this certificate allows you to apply for various specialties at universities in Russia. So, in 2020, having surrendered the society (often in conjunction they will require specialized mathematics), one can consider the following areas:
- economics and management;
- sociology and political science;
- personnel Management;
- psychology and pedagogy;
- commodity science;
- services sector.
Often, 11-graders who have not decided on the desired direction and those who consider foreign languages, physics, chemistry or history too complex for themselves choose this subject. Needless to say, both options are erroneous.
First, the exam level in mathematics and the elective discipline should be chosen only after familiarizing yourself with the requirements of universities for applicants submitting documents for an interesting specialty. Secondly, social science is not at all as simple as it seems to some, although there are no cumbersome formulas and complex mathematical calculations, the amount of information that needs to be memorized is quite large.
So, in 2019, 385,000 people chose for themselves the subject of the GIA society. At the same time, the average score of the graduate certificate turned out to be quite low, only 54.9, and the number of students who could not overcome the minimum threshold increased from 16.7% in 2018 to 19.6% in 2019. The maximum result (100 points) was shown only 151 people, which is 0.05% of all those who have passed social studies.
Dates
For early period The draft exam schedule sets the following dates:
- main exam - 04/03/20 (Friday);
- reserve - 04/10/20 (Friday).
The draft GIA calendar of 2020, announced by Kravtsov, sets out for the main period of the exam according to social science, such dates in the main period:
Main day | Reserve |
June 8, 2020 (Friday) | June 30, 2020 (Tuesday) |
July 3, 2020 (Friday) |
Dates of the preliminary period will be announced in mid-autumn.
Please note that this year the social science exam will be held on the same day as chemistry. If for any reason, the graduate decides to pass both subjects, then one of the tests will have to take place on a reserve day.
Important! Retake of the company is possible only on reserve days. In September, the last attempt is given only in compulsory subjects (mathematics and the Russian language).
Exam 2020
The process of modernization of the knowledge control system has been completed and in 2020 the test format itself, as well as the structure of KIM for social studies, will remain the same, although there will be minor changes in the formulation of tasks and the assessment of the exam.
Regulations
Almost all the basic points of the exam in social studies in the 2019-2020 academic year will remain unchanged:
- time to complete the work - 235 minutes (3 hours 55 minutes);
- total issues - 29;
- maximum test score - 65;
- minimum required to obtain a certificate - 42;
- no additional materials and equipment.
KIM structure
As in the previous year, at the Unified State Examination 2020 in social studies, the test participants will have to answer 29 questions from KIM, which will be distributed in two parts as follows:
Part | Number of tasks | Feature |
І | 20 | Short answer |
ІІ | 9 (8 + essays) | Detailed response |
In 2020, the exam will cover all 5 topics:
- man and society (philosophy);
- economy;
- social relations (sociology);
- politics;
- right;
So, in the block “Man and society” there may be questions in the following areas:
In the block "Economics" tasks cover the following areas:
The block “Social relations” includes 13 main topics:
The “Politics” block will be aimed at testing the knowledge of graduates in such areas as:
The “Law” block will probably be one of the most voluminous, because it will include topics related to legislation governing the rights and obligations of Russian citizens in various spheres of life.
Traditionally, graduates are most worried about task number 29 - an essay in which it is necessary to formulate basic ideas and illustrate them with examples from social life, history or personal experience.
At the same time, the examinees are offered a choice of 5 topics - one topic for each of the five semantic blocks of the exam. The 2020 demo suggested the following topics:
Grading
Maximum graduates of 2020 will be able to score 65 test points at the Unified State Exam in Social Studies, which will correspond to 100 points in the certificate.
It is important to consider that 1 part of the work (form No. 1) is subject to automated verification and it is important to comply with all design requirements when filling out it. Otherwise, your answer simply will not be counted, and since appeals to the 1st part are not accepted, there will be no chance to prove your case.
The second part with detailed answers, as well as an essay will be checked by two experts. It is important to write clearly and in essence, because this will directly affect the result of the assessment.
The distribution of primary scores for KIM assignments will be as follows:
Primary point | Tasks |
1 | № 1-3, 10, 12 |
2 | № 4-9, 11, 13-22 |
3 | № 23, 24, 26, 27 |
4 | № 25, 28 |
6 | № 29 |
In the course of evaluating the mini-essay (task No. 29), experts will use this table of maximum scores for the main criteria:
№ | Criterion | Maximum score |
1 | The meaning of the statement is revealed. | 1 |
2 | Explanation of the basic concept, correctness of theoretical principles | 2 |
3 | The coherence and logic of reasoning | 1 |
4 | Quality of given examples | 2 |
Please note that experts will set zeros on all points if the examiner does not initially reveal the meaning of the statement (he will get “0” according to the first criterion for evaluating the mini-essay).
The approximate correspondence of the certificate score and 5-point system in 2020 will be as follows:
Training
Traditionally, the preparation for the Unified State Examination 2020 in social studies begins with a detailed familiarization with the documentation. The article highlights the basic facts. More complete information about what awaits at the exam can be found in the codifier and specifications posted on the FIPI website (fipi.ru).
Pay attention to the recommendations of experts regarding the execution time of various tasks of KIM.
Tasks | Recommended time |
№ 1-3, 10 | 1-4 minutes |
№ 4-9, 11-28 | 2-8 minutes |
№ 29 | 29-45 minutes |
Among the main shortcomings that prevent graduates from achieving high results at the USE in society, experts note:
- failure to comply with the requirements given in the instructions;
- insufficient attention at the preparation stage to issues estimated at 1 and 2 points;
- lack of experience in writing essays in which it is necessary to formulate your thoughts and reinforce them with examples.
More about the problems that graduates of 2019 faced with the example of a detailed analysis of the results of the social science exam, see this video:
So, you already know what points should be worked on and what you need to watch out for at the stage of preparation for the upcoming USE in 2020, which means it's time to move from theory to practice. Where to begin?
- Work through each of the above topics in 5 main blocks.
- In parallel, solve tasks from the open FIPI bank, which are also conveniently distributed in thematic areas.
- Make a short summary of the basic concepts, which will help to quickly restore in memory everything you need before the exam.
- Practice writing mini essays.
Is it possible to simplify the learning process? Of course, special collections have already been developed for this, in which the necessary information is presented in the most compact and convenient way. You can also refer to the official documentation. So, the specifications provide a complete list of regulatory acts that graduates need to know.

If any of the topics is difficult, refer to the video tutorials, which explain in detail and in detail the sometimes complex concepts from the field of economics, philosophy and sociology.
And most importantly, learn how to correctly write mini-compositions. Start with the ones suggested in the 2020 and 2019 demos. But first, watch the instructional video, which details what you need and what you don’t need to write in an essay on social studies:
