When will student day be in 2020

By the way, the international student holiday is celebrated on November 17. It is dedicated to the tragic events that occurred in Czechoslovakia in 1989, when protests of students and teachers were dispersed, and participants were sent to concentration camps. During the crackdown, one student was shot dead. Later, several more people died. In Russia, all entertainment events are held on January 25, in November they honor the memory of the dead Protestants.

Some countries have their own holidays for students. For example, in the USA, in February, a costume carnival is held at Harvard, and in Finland, celebrations are held on May 1.

History of occurrence

Students celebrate their holiday on Tatyana's day, although not everyone knows whether it is an accident or a coincidence. To find the answer to this question, you should return to the time of the holiday. Initially, it was timed to the opening of Moscow State University. This event took place in 1755 on January 25th. The decree on its discovery was signed by Empress Elizabeth after the personal appeal of Ivan Shuvalov.

The day was not chosen by chance, since this important event was dedicated to Shuvalov’s mother. Her name was Tatyana. In the Christian world, January 25 is celebrated as Tatyana's Day. It is dedicated to the Roman great martyr, who was executed in 226. Since then, St. Tatyana was considered the patroness of all students. In her honor, a house church was even erected at the university.

On January 25 (12 in the old style), noisy festivities were organized in the Russian Empire. Students often got drunk a lot. The gendarmes never arrested them, but helped to get home. Sometimes on the clothes they wrote the address. With the advent of Soviet power, the holiday was no longer celebrated. It was reborn only in 1995, when a church was built at Moscow University in honor of St. Tatyana. In 2005, the President of Russia signed a decree approving the holiday.
