The rapid change in the world and the development of technology has prompted specialists to create an “Atlas of new professions”, which makes forecasts regarding the emergence of specialties in 2020-2030. And although at the first acquaintance it seems that this is a script for a science fiction film, after reflection and analysis you begin to understand that tomorrow it can become a reality. Indeed, only 15-20 years ago it was impossible to suggest that IT specialists, PR managers and sales managers would be in demand on the market. The developers note that this is the first and experimental publication. In the course of further research, changes will be made to it.
What is it
According to the creators, Atlas is an almanac of specialties and a guide to industries that will be promising in the next decade. It reflects well the rapid development of the world, its cardinal change, dictated by achievements in the field of information technology and other industries. Based on the research, the developers compiled a list of professions in 19 different industries, which will be in demand in the near future. Some specialties now already exist in well-developed countries, while other professions are not yet available all over the world, but if the general trend of changes remains, they will certainly appear.
Atlas has several key aspects:
- The emergence of new professions. The developers not only compiled a list of specialties, but also qualified them by industry, appearance period and other criteria.
- The disappearance of old professions. Due to the proposed changes, some professions will soon lose their relevance. And although they can last another 10-20 years, only individuals will work. For example, soon the computer will be able to carry out the work of an accountant.
- Training. The creators indicated educational institutions in which it will be possible to obtain the necessary education to build career growth in the chosen specialty.
- Potential employers. In this section, Russian companies are registered in which the profession will be in demand.
- Universal skills. What skills and abilities are allowed to achieve success in the chosen direction, for example, computer skills and the ability to work with artificial intelligence, systemic thinking, artistic abilities, etc.

How was created
Specialists from the Moscow school SKOLKOVO and the Agency for Strategic Initiatives jointly worked on the creation of the Atlas of New Professions 2020-2030. Together, they conducted a study called “Foresight of Competencies 2030”. Its participants were 2500 companies from Russia, America, Japan, European and other countries. Leading companies, including Rosatom, Gazprom, Roscosmos, Aeroflot, etc., took part in it.
To conduct the study, the developers used special foresight technology. The creators themselves call it a telescope for the future. From English, the word “foresight” is translated as a look into the future. The technology is based on several basic principles:
- The future depends on the effort. It is created by people in certain conditions.
- The future is variable. May vary depending on the decisions made.
- It is impossible to predict the future by 100%, but the development of individual industries can be foreseen with a high probability.
In total, Atlas developers conducted 30 foresight sessions in various directions - from the IT sector to biotechnology. During their conduct, experts discussed technological changes, as well as economic and social processes that affect the formation of industries in different directions. The so-called “map of the future” was compiled after a thorough analysis of all the discussions and arguments.
What is the Atlas of New Professions For?
The world is constantly changing. In recent decades, this has been happening at a rapid pace. Due to the development of technologies, the introduction of innovations in almost all areas of human activity, the priorities among professions are changing. Some specialties in the modern world are losing their relevance. At the same time, new professions are replacing them.
The Atlas of New Professions, which will appear before and after 2020, cannot be an accurate guide for action, as it is 100% impossible to predict the future. But it opens up a field of opportunities, allows you to decide on the direction. Especially useful Atlas for current and future students. Indeed, when choosing a profession, they can take into account market trends, projected changes and choose a promising specialty.
The information provided in the Atlas can also be used by training centers, universities and other educational institutions. They can now develop a training program based on projected changes.
