Although the full official version of the GIA calendar is being approved closer to the month of November, today we can already say what the exam schedule for the main exam in the 2019-2020 academic year will be, since Sergey Kvartsov announced the dates of the tests in his speech.
December essay
The first test for the 11th graders of the 2019-2020 academic year will be the final essay, which in the coming season all future graduates of Russia will write on December 4, 2019.
The December essay will be admission to the main block of exams. If the student, for good reason, does not write the essay on the specified day, or receives a “fail” at the first attempt, then he will be given 2 more chances to correct the situation. The reserve days for the final essay in 2020 will be 05.02.20 and 05.06.20.
Three periods of the exam
The Unified State Exam, which is held annually for all 11th grade graduates, as well as past graduates wishing to enter universities, involves three periods:
Period | Dates | Testable |
Early | 18.03.20 – 10.04.20 | graduates of past years 11th graders in 2020 who have submitted a good reason to reschedule an exam |
Main | 25.05.20 – 03.07.20 | all graduates of the 2019-2020 academic year |
Autumn | 01.09.20 – 18.09.20 | GIA-11 2020 participants who did not pass one of the required subjects |
Early session
Initially, the opportunity to pass the GIA in early spring (2 months earlier than the main period) was conceived for graduates of past years and those who graduated from school before the introduction of mandatory tests. But, in practice, 11-graders can take this opportunity in 2020, if for some reason they can’t attend the exam tests on the dates of the main period set by the calendar.
Early Calendar:
date | Day of the week | Discipline |
20.03.20 | Friday | geography literature |
23.03.20 | Monday | Russian language |
27.03.20 | Friday | maths (base and profile) |
30.03.20 | Monday | foreign languages (in writing) physics biology |
01.04.20 | Wednesday | foreign languages (orally) |
03.04.20 | Friday | computer science and ICT social science |
06.04.20 | Monday | story chemistry |
Reserve days for the early period:
date | Day of the week | Discipline |
08.04.20 | Wednesday | geography computer science and ICT chemistry story foreign languages (orally) |
10.04.20 | Friday | foreign languages (in writing) literature physics biology social science |
13.04.20 | Monday | mathematics (base and profile) Russian language |
A good reason for early surrender may be:
- international sports competitions, which are held in May-June;
- participation in international art competitions and festivals;
- planned treatment (emergency surgery, preventive treatment, spa treatment, etc.).
If you want to pass the exams ahead of time and know for sure that you have the right to do so, you must not miss the application period. This must be done before 02/01/20!
Please note that for graduates who graduated from school in 2019 and earlier, only one attempt will be made to choose the desired number of points in the disciplines. If such participants receive an unsatisfactory result, they are not given an additional chance for another retake.
All 11th graders of 2020 who pass the USE ahead of schedule will receive the right to retake in the general manner. For this, reserve days of the early period are determined. For compulsory subjects, a retake in September is also possible.
Important! In the fall, you can only retake the required items.Also, those who do not overcome the minimum threshold in 2 or more disciplines will not get an additional chance in 2020.
Main session
These are the test dates for the Unified State Examination 2020 that should interest graduates of the 2019-2020 academic year.
The preliminary calendar of the main session is already known. He was introduced by Sergey Kravtsov in his speech on the results of the exam in 2019.
So, in the coming year, the main dates will be:
date | Day of the week | Discipline |
25.05.20 | Monday | geography computer science literature |
28.05.20 | Thursday | Russian language |
01.06.20 | Monday | basic math specialized mathematics |
04.06.20 | Thursday | biology story |
08.06.20 | Monday | social science chemistry |
11.06.20 | Thursday | foreign languages (orally) |
15.06.20 | Monday | foreign languages (orally) |
16.06.20 | Thursday | foreign languages (in writing) physics |
Note! Almost all dates require the delivery of two items. If a graduate wants to take both (for example, history and biology), then he will have to take one of the disciplines on a reserve day.
The following dates are indicated as reserve in the draft USE schedule for 2020:
date | Day of the week | Thing |
19.06.20 | Tuesday | geography computer science literature |
22.06.20 | Monday | Russian language |
25.06.20 | Thursday | basic math specialized mathematics |
29.06.20 | Monday | story biology |
30.06.20 | Tuesday | social science chemistry |
01.07.20 | Wednesday | foreign languages (in writing) physics |
02.07.20 | Thursday | foreign languages (orally) |
03.07.20 | Friday | all things |
Autumn session
Autumn retake - the last chance for those who "failed" one of the required items:
- Russian language;
- mathematics (base);
- mathematics (profile).
In 2020, graduates are allowed to retake who did not attend the main exam for a good reason or did not exceed the minimum threshold, as well as if the exam result was canceled due to the fault of third parties.
Important! If the examiner was removed from the office for malicious violation of discipline, convicted of using prohibited devices, cheat sheets and other tricks, he loses the right to an autumn attempt and will be able to retake the exam (and, accordingly, get a certificate), only in 2021.
Graduates who wish to retake math in the autumn period are given the right to once again choose the level of testing. So, if a failure in the main period befell on a test in specialized mathematics, then you can try to retake the basic exam, which will allow you to get a certificate, but will no longer allow you to enter in 2020 in a number of specialties in the physical and mathematical profile or IT.
Expert Advice
Of course, in the most ideal case, the graduate of 2020 should successfully pass the GIA, submit documents to the desired university and by the fall become a happy and promising student. But ... this is ideal, and life is not always perfect, and sometimes very unpredictable.
What to do if you are among those who did not pass the exam? This question worries many graduates and parents. Of course, the situation is quite unpleasant, but not as catastrophic as teachers often draw, motivating students to quality training.
Firstly, all USE certificates are valid for 4 years, which means that having passed the exam in 2020, you can apply to the university until 2023 inclusive. If failure has occurred in one of the required subjects, and it has not been possible to retake, it is worth concentrating on this discipline and pulling knowledge to the required level, again trying your luck during the afternoon session of 2021.
Secondly, there is always the opportunity to play it safe. To do this, some graduates do not choose 3 subjects, as required by the regulatory framework of GIA, but more. Most often, these are 4-5 disciplines, taking into account possible directions for submitting documents.
So, just in case, you can pass both profile and basic mathematics. Getting ready for the profile, you can easily cope with the base, providing yourself with a guarantee of obtaining a certificate.
You can also select more than one item of your choice. Of course, it will be more difficult to prepare. But, if one of the exams fails, the second may allow you to successfully enroll in 2020.
Think, verify your capabilities and requirements set by universities, study the exam schedule, as well as the changes that will occur in KIMs in different subjects already in 2020, and only then make your informed choice!
