In anticipation of the coming year, we offer to find out which holidays and weekends are present in the production calendar of Russia, as well as how much and when we will rest in 2020 in winter, summer, spring and autumn.
Official holidays
The coming 2020 will be a leap year, which means that it will have 366 days, including 118 days off and 248 workers.
Important! The official calendar is for the classic 5-day work week.
In 2020, all-Russian holidays will remain, which, as before, will be eight:
№ | Celebration | date | Day of the week |
1 | New Year | 01.01.20 | Wednesday |
2 | Nativity | 07.01.20 | Tuesday |
3 | Defenders of the Fatherland Day | 23.02.20 | Sunday |
4 | International Women's Day | 08.03.20 | Sunday |
5 | Spring and Labor Day | 01.05.20 | Friday |
6 | Victory Day | 09.05.20 | Saturday |
7 | Russia Day | 12.06.20 | Friday |
8 | National Unity Day | 04.11.20 | Wednesday |
In some constituent entities of the Russian Federation, in addition to the all-Russian ones, there are regional holidays, which will also remain in 2020. As a rule, these are dates associated with important historical events and religious holidays. Like the main 8 dates, they have the status of official holidays and are days off for residents of the respective region.
Long weekend
For most Russians, official holidays are an additional opportunity to meet with relatives or relax with the whole family, taking a short trip or just visiting the city. The implementation of such plans is facilitated by the so-called “long weekends”, which are formed when Saturday and Sunday adjoin the holiday date, or when the red day of the calendar falls on the weekend.
In 2020, weekends and holidays form several such successful periods:
№ | Period | Dates | Number of days |
1 | New year holidays | 01.01.20 – 08.01.20 | 8 days |
2 | On February 23 | 22.02.20 – 24.02.20 | 3 days |
3 | On march 8 | 07.03.20 – 09.03.20 | 3 days |
4 | May Day | 01.05.20 – 05.05.20 | 5 days |
5 | On Victory Day | 09.05.20 – 11.05.20 | 3 days |
6 | For Russia Day | 12.06.20 – 14.06.20 | 3 days |
Important! Two additional weekends, which are released due to the imposition of the New Year holidays for the weekend (January 4 and 5), will be postponed to May 4 and 5, respectively, which will give a long vacation for the May holidays.
Thus, the longest period of rest in the coming year will traditionally be New Year or Christmas holidays.
Shortened working days
Working days preceding official holidays are traditionally declared shortened. In 2019, there were 6 such days, and in 2020 there will be only 5:
- 04/30/20 (before the May holidays);
- 05/08/20 (before May 9);
- 06/11/20 (before the Day of Russia);
- 11/03/20 (on the eve of National Unity Day);
- 12/31/20 (the last day of 2020).
Officially, these days, working time is reduced by 1 hour.
Weekend and weekend transfers
In order to optimize working time, the government often recommends postponements of work or days off, which allows not only to extend the holiday periods, but also to get more effective returns from people at the workplace. So, there are a number of rules:
- a working day separately between weekends and holidays can be postponed to Saturday;
- if the red day of the calendar falls on Saturday or Sunday, an additional day off is provided, which can be postponed to the next Monday or any other working day of the year.
Due to the fact that the holidays fell on the weekend, in 2020 we will immediately receive 5 additional days for rest:
From what day | What day |
04.01.20 | 04.05.20 |
05.01.20 | 05.05.20 |
23.02.20 | 24.02.20 |
08.03.20 | 09.03.20 |
09.05.20 | 11.05.20 |
For comparison, in 2019 there were only 3 such transfers (for the January weekend and February 23), so we can say that leap 2020 will be really rich for the weekend. It remains only to decide how to spend your free time.
Unofficial holidays
The reason for the meeting, congratulations and just a good mood in 2020 can be not only official and holidays, because there are many other dates that are worth remembering and celebrating.
We suggest that you familiarize yourself with the full list of holidays, including generally accepted days for congratulating people of various professions and important dates of the Orthodox calendar.
