When to plant sorrel in 2020

Planting sorrel in 2020

Under the first spring sun in the beds of many gardeners of our country, useful greens - sorrel, which should be planted according to the laws of the lunar calendar in 2020, begin to green annually. After all, it has long been known that planting plants on special favorable days, you can get active seedling growth, and then a plentiful and useful crop.

The basic rules of growing

Juicy leaves with a pleasant acidity are put not only in the beloved green soup. A variety of salads and side dishes, nutritious soups and vitamin cocktails are prepared from fresh sorrel. A herbaceous plant of the buckwheat family is cultivated in one place for 3-6 years, although there are annual varieties. When landing, the following points should be considered:

  1. Spring greens love the sun, but not very hot, so for its germination it is better to choose a place under the trees, at the fence or behind the house.
  2. Sorrel grows well in places where capsules, celery, carrots, parsley, radishes, and beets were previously harvested.
  3. Fertilizers, for example, potassium chloride, superphosphate, compost or manure, are added to the garden where the seeds are planned to be planted in the fall, then the earth is digged.
  4. Sorrel is a semi-shrub and grows more actively in peat or sandy loamy soil.
  5. Before sowing, the plot is cleaned of all weeds, especially wheat grass, which sucks out most of the moisture and nutrients from the soil.
  6. Sorrel can be sown in spring and summer, and even in late autumn. The main thing is to comply with the seasonal agricultural characteristics of planting.

Sorrel in the garden

Most often, gardeners sow greens in the spring, when the soil is sufficiently moist. Pre-seed is not even soaked. The early shoots of sorrel are actively growing and gaining juiciness. After summer sowing, bushes appear which should be systematically watered. But their root system perfectly adapts to the soil, develops well and will bring a plentiful harvest of oxalic culture next spring. Sowing seeds before winter is often unsuccessful, as seedlings hatch before the first frosts and simply die. Therefore, it is advisable to begin autumn work in October, especially in regions with severe winters. In this case, the seed material is placed in the ground not germinated. All processes of growth and hardening of seedlings must take place in the soil, so that the sprouts have the strength to survive the frost.

When to sow sorrel on the lunar calendar

According to the lunar calendar for 2020, gardeners and gardeners plan not only planting sorrel, but also the rest of the work - watering, loosening the soil, thinning. Experts do not recommend carrying out work on the new moon, as well as on days when the moon is waning:

May1-6, 23-29, 3114, 307-13, 15-22

November16-21, 23-298, 221-7, 9-15, 30

Having chosen a good day for planting sorrel for seedlings in 2020, gardeners should prepare furrows of 1.5-2 cm with a distance between them of 20-30 cm. The earth is watered, and then the seeds are planted to a depth of 1.5-2 cm, and thick enough. To seedlings appeared faster, the bed is covered with a film or polyethylene. The first vitamin greens hatch in 2-2.5 weeks after sowing, it is thinned several times, leaving spaces between the shoots first at 5-7 cm, and then at 10-15 cm. Large leaves of sorrel are torn off, and a new one appears in their place young growth.

Sorrel Harvest

Planting greens for seedlings

If there is free space on the balcony or glazed loggia or a heifer is equipped in the yard, you can sow sorrel for seedlings in January or February, so that in the spring of 2020 you get early juicy greens. Works are best verified with the lunar calendar:

MonthAuspicious daysNeutral daysBad days
January1,2, 4-9, 26-313, 1710-16, 18-25
February1, 3-8, 24-292, 169-15, 17-23

For the cultivation of sorrel, rhizomes of a healthy plant are used, which grew on an open bed for 2-4 years, although seedlings can also be germinated from seeds. In the conditions of the greenhouse and the house, the Odessa broad-leaved variety of sorrel, Altai and Maykop grows well. Soil for growing home greens is usually bought in a store (loamy or slightly acidic).

For planting sorrel at home in January-February 2020, you will need any small containers, flowerpots or boxes with outlets. Drain from pebbles or expanded clay is poured at their bottom, and then fill with soil. The roots with buds are deepened by 3-4 cm and the seeds by 1.2 cm. In order to accelerate germination, the crops are covered with a plastic cover or polyethylene and, as the soil dries, they are sprayed or watered with simple, settled water.

Sorrel is a fairly cold-resistant plant that tolerates sharp temperature changes, but its seedlings are best grown on a sunny southern window sill. When cultivating greenery, watering, loosening and thinning are periodically carried out at home so that the bushes grow better and receive more moisture and oxygen.

Sorrel bushes

From February to March, sorrel is also planted in greenhouse soil. To do this, use healthy rhizomes or seeds that are previously soaked for punching. Swollen seeds are scattered on small grooves. They are filled with a soil mixture, watered and sprinkled with a layer of peat or humus. For 10-15 days, the first green appears in the greenhouse. Then it is looked after in the same way as in the open ground.

Proper care

It is important for beginning summer residents to know not only the dates and days when to plant sorrel in 2020, but also how to properly care for plantings so that they do not die. They should be weed periodically from weeds, loosen the soil for better growth and respiration of the root system. Peduncles should be cut, as they reduce the food quality of leafy greens. After each cut of sorrel, urea or other liquid fertilizers are fed. In spring, humus or ash is scattered between the rows. At the end of the season before the onset of the first frosts, the entire terrestrial part of the culture is cut off, and to preserve viable healthy rhizomes, they are mulched, that is, sprinkled with a layer of peat or compost.
