New Year's celebration begins long before January 1. People begin to create a New Year mood in early December, and someone before. And the easiest way to do this is by decorating the apartment. The main attribute is a tree, but in addition to it you can invent and make yourself a bunch of interesting crafts. We offer original New Year's compositions, which you can do with your own hands for 2020.
Fairytale house made of cardboard
It doesn't sound very good, but it just looks gorgeous. Because cardboard is only the basis of the house, and the decor creates beauty. To create such a simple New Year's composition, you can attract a child.
From the materials we need:
- a piece of thick cardboard (you can take a box from under household appliances);
- scissors;
- stationery knife;
- pencil;
- ruler;
- masking tape;
- cotton wool or decorative snow;
- gouache: white, red, green and other New Year's flowers;
- a figure of Santa Claus, the Snow Maiden or the symbol of 2020 - rats;
- cones, rain and other small items for decoration.
It will take less than an hour to make a fabulous house. Let's get started.
1. On the cardboard we draw a diagram of the future hut. Approximate dimensions are shown in the first picture. According to them, you get a house that fits in the palm of an adult. You can multiply each digit by the same number, and then the house will be larger.
2. Cut out the template. Just don't cut along the lines that mean folds. It’s better to sign them right away so as not to be confused.
3. Using a ruler, bend the house along the lines.
4. We draw the door and cut it with a clerical knife.
5. We assemble the house by gluing the walls and the roof from the inside with paper tape.
6. On the assembled house we draw windows.
7. Color the hut to your liking. Use New Year's colors (avoid black, yellow, purple, pink). It is understood that the house is in the forest, so do not spare the white color imitating snow.
8. Glue cotton on the roof of the painted house. From above, we pour a silver rain or other decor items on it.
You can install the house under the tree. Throw more cotton wool to make “snowdrifts”. And put the figures of men that you have nearby. Well, if it will be Santa Claus or the Snow Maiden. But other characters are also suitable: rats, gingerbread men, bunnies, snowmen, etc.
You can make several houses of different sizes, and you get a whole fabulous village. Children will be happy to play with such a New Year composition, inhabiting huts with toys.
Table arrangement of branches and cones
The space near the Christmas tree was decorated. Now we will make a beautiful New Year's composition for decorating the festive table. She will look good in its very center. You can also place it on a coffee table, on a windowsill, on a shelf.
Materials for the manufacture of such a composition will not always be found at home, so you will have to prepare and, possibly, go to the store or even to the forest. You will need:
- a tray or any other flat object made of metal, plastic or wood;
- coniferous branches and cones (it is possible decorative, but better - real, to smell of forest);
- branches of mountain ash or viburnum with berries;
- a beautiful candle of large diameter;
- hot glue.
The time to make a New Year’s composition is minimal. It will take 20-30 minutes to do this.

2. Try to stick the elements symmetrically, relative to the center, so that when viewed from above, the composition looks harmonious and beautiful.
3. Add branches of mountain ash and stick them too.
4. In the center on a tray "plant" a candle. It will not work with glue, so we heat the candle from below so that the wax starts to drip, and then we lean it against the tray and hold for several seconds.
New Year's composition is ready! If desired, you can additionally decorate it with decorative snow, imitating frost on the branches. And if you beautifully pack the craft, it will be a great gift for 2020.
Attention! When you light a candle, do not leave the room and keep the situation under control. Otherwise, branches or cones may catch fire.
Glass Candle Holders
Candles are a very important attribute of the New Year, because they create an atmosphere of mystery and magic. Therefore, there should be many candles in the apartment. Let's make a simple composition in the form of an original candlestick that will fit into the New Year’s interior of any home.
We will need:
- a couple of glasses for wine (although you can use triangular wine glasses for martini or other drinks);
- small figures of animals or men that freely enter the glass;
- decorative snow or a piece of foam;
- grater;
- pencil;
- thick cardboard;
- double sided tape;
- ordinary tape.
By the time it takes 15-20 minutes to make such a beautiful New Year's composition.
1. We circle the glasses on the cardboard and cut out the resulting circles strictly along the resulting lines. You can even add a couple of millimeters so that the cardboard circles subsequently do not fall into the glass.
2. Using double-sided tape, stick the figures on cardboard. If the figure has an uneven bottom (for example, this is a little man standing on its legs), it is better to use a more reliable hot glue.
3. Spray decorative snow into the glass so that part of it remains on the walls.
4. If there is no snow, we will make it ourselves from foam. Rub a piece on a fine grater. Be careful: the rubbed polystyrene “magnetizes” to your hands and easily scatters. Therefore, do not sneeze at it and keep it away from children and pets who might accidentally create a breath of wind.
When the snow is already inside, cover the glass with a cardboard with a toy and fix with several strips of transparent tape.
New Year's candlestick is ready!
It remains to put it on the table and place candles on top. Instead of figurines and snow in the glass, there may be other New Year's attributes: Christmas balls, cones, decorative shiny pebbles, needles, etc. When the holidays are over, you can pull out the contents and wash the glass to use it for its intended purpose.
You can additionally decorate glasses. We offer to make them as in the photo.
To do this, you will need:
- masking tape;
- toothpaste (plain, white);
- a piece of foam or sponge for washing dishes;
- decorative Christmas accessories;
- hot glue;
- twine.
In time, it will take more than half an hour, because the paste should dry thoroughly.
1. From the masking tape cut out stars or other figures. Evenly stick stars on the glass.
2. We apply toothpaste to the foam and apply it in a point motion to the glass.
3. You have to make several layers to get an even white color. Although, you can leave the glass half transparent. After the paste has dried (you can verify this experimentally by touching it with your finger), carefully remove the stars.
4. We make decor. To do this, you need to create a beautiful composition of cones and twigs.
5. It remains to glue the decoration on the rope and tie a mini-craft to the stem of the glass.
Christmas rat made of wire
It is impossible to meet 2020 without his mistress. But to get a real rat is not necessary: you can make it from wire and wine cork. You can make such an original craft with your own hands, and for this it is not necessary to be able to sew.
We will need:
- wine cork;
- aluminum wire of different diameters (one about 2 mm, the other thinner - for example, 0.5 mm);
- wire cutters;
- pliers or pliers;
- fine abrasive paper;
- stationery knife;
- twine;
- a ball of woolen threads of gray, brown or white color (depending on which rat you want);
- 2 pins with a white ball at the end (for the eye) and 1 - with black or pink (for the nose).
You won’t be able to make such a rat quickly, so turn on your favorite New Year’s movie and enjoy the process. You can connect schoolchildren to work. It is better for babies not to interfere with the process, because a wire is involved here, which may not be very safe for preschool children.
1. Using a clerical knife, we give the cork a conical shape. Using sandpaper, we process the resulting workpiece so that it is smooth. We take a large aluminum wire and prepare parts: a neck with a head, front paws, rear paws. We use nippers (for cutting) and pliers (for bending).
2. The billet for the legs is bent from one end so that a “drop” is obtained. This is especially important for the hind legs, because our rat must stand confidently. We grease the bent ends of the wire with hot glue and put three small pieces of thin wire on them. These are claws. We take a ball of woolen thread and begin to wrap the tips of the paws. Do not forget about the claws.
3. Paws, while we lay aside and do the torso. We stick a wire into the cork, which serves as the neck and head of the rat. If the wire does not stick, sharpen its end with wire cutters. Give the head a relief with twine. We wrap the wire with it so that the head is wider and the muzzle narrows. At the tip of the muzzle, you can immediately insert a cropped pin with a ball at the end.
Now you can insert the legs. When all the legs are in place, we begin to wrap the entire workpiece with thread. This is a scrupulous process, because you have to get around all the "obstacles". And there will be many layers.
The rat is almost ready and is already standing on its feet. Making the ears. From the thick wire we wrap the “droplets” and wrap them with a thread. Cut the ends and paste into the head.
4. From the white pins make eyes. We take a narrow strip of any fabric and tie a scarf to the rat.
The toy is interesting due to the fact that its paws move up and down. If desired, you can add a skirt to the rat or other items of clothing. And this toy is very symbolic, because 2020 is the year of the metallic white Rat. And our rat is made of metal - from wire.
If the fairy-tale house that we talked about at the beginning of the article turned out great, you can put this wonderful rat next to it to complete the New Year's composition. A rat will look good next to the candlestick, waving its paw and signaling that 2020 is already very close.
