Almost all the believers know what date Nikola Nicholas will be in 2020. The Miracle Worker or Pleaser of God is highly regarded among Christians for actions committed during life. This holy day is even dedicated to two holidays, which are celebrated in winter and spring. Nikola Summer or Spring is dedicated to the transfer of the relics of the Miracle Worker from Lycia to Italy.
When will be celebrated
This Christian holiday has nothing to do with Easter, so the date of its celebration does not change for several centuries. Previously, it was celebrated on May 9 (according to the old calendar), and now it is on May 22.
Important! In 2020, the date of the celebration of Nikola Letnoy will remain unchanged and fixed. All Christians will honor the memory of the saint on May 22.
And although for believers this is a big holiday, revered in different regions, it is not an official weekend. On May 22, 2020 falls on Friday, so the working population will have to postpone the celebrations until the evening. For the sake of justice, it is worth noting that long-standing traditions are now practically not observed (exceptions of the outback in the regions), although the Miracle Worker is revered among adults and children.
History of occurrence
Nicholas is one of the most revered saints in Christianity. In many cities, not only in Russia but also in other countries, temples and cathedrals are called in his honor.
Nikolai was born in Lycia, which belonged to Greece (now it is the territory of Turkey), in the III century. The boy's parents were rich people, but from an early age he decided to follow in the footsteps of his uncle, who was a bishop. When the guy grew up, he took the rank and began to help the flock.
After the death of his parents, Nicholas inherited a rich inheritance, but he decided not to turn off the chosen path. He gave all the money to the poor, and devoted his life to helping those in need. The saint always provided them with spiritual and material support. He was sensual, good-natured and generous. For character traits and sincere faith, God awarded Nikolai with unusual abilities. He could treat seriously ill people, help those in need and, according to some reports, even resurrect the dead. For this they called him the Miracle Worker.
After the death of the saint, his body was placed in stone cancer. According to legend, his relics for a long time did not yield to decay. They published a fragrant world that was used to heal the sick. When the Turks attacked Lycia in the 11th century, the relics of Nicholas were threatened. The Ottomans destroyed everything related to Christianity.
Merchants from the Roman Empire decided to steal the relics of the saint in order to lead them to their hometown. To do this, they beat the guards and made their way to the temple. It turned out to be impossible to take out the cancer because of the heavy weight, so they transferred the relics to the cloak and carried it to the ship. After returning to the Italian city of Bari, the relics were placed in the temple, where they are still located.
Modern and old traditions
In the morning, believers go to Nicholas Summer in the church for worship. It is believed that the Miracle Worker helps everyone, so people turn to him with prayers. Someone asks for health for relatives or a good harvest, someone wants to arrange a personal life or solve other problems.
In the old days, upon returning home, people always visited the bathhouse, and after that they put on clean and ironed clothes. Women must clean the house to receive the blessing and protection of the saint. Adults and children washed their morning dew. It was believed that it has healing properties and is able to protect against diseases for a long time.
Particular attention was paid to livestock. They cleaned the crib and gave the animals pies and other goodies from the table. Be sure to turn to Nikolai Ugodnik with prayers, so that he would protect cattle from diseases and predators. In the old days, for the first time, horses were left for the first time in the pasture on Nikolai Letnoy. The guys who were supposed to guard the animals were always fed with porridge pies. For the first grazing, forecasts were made for the future. If all the animals remained in place, safe and sound, then the year will be successful. In another case, one should have expected trouble.
Festivities were often held in the villages, they sang songs, burned bonfires and led round dances. They went to bed later than usual, and even children were allowed to walk longer that day. Various ceremonies were also held to protect livestock. Historians believe that such traditions have pagan roots, although today they have not survived even in the provinces.
