The lunar sowing calendar for 2020 will help to obtain information about the optimal time for various garden works. Depending on the lunar phases and the position of the satellite in different zodiac constellations, it is possible to plan what and when to do (or not to) to ensure fast strong sprouts, and subsequently high yields.
Gardening Calendar
It is important to choose not only suitable dates in 2020, taking into account the recommendations of the lunar calendar, but also the month when you should plant seedlings in a greenhouse, and when to plant it and seeds in open ground. If you do this too early, or, conversely, late, you can’t count on a good harvest.
Month | What do we do |
---|---|
January | Time relax. You can review the available seed, buy the missing seeds and equipment, prepare a place for future seedlings. In severe frosts - sprinkle tree trunks with snow. |
February | Start growing seedlings. Suitable time for sowing tomatoes, peppers, celery and other crops with a long period of growth. Petunias, lobelia, begonias are sown from flowers for seedlings. |
March | Seedling care. The soil only thaws, it’s not warm enough everywhere, so do not rush to place plants in open ground. It is better to clear and dig a plot of land, engage in soil fertilization, the formation of trees and shrubs. |
April | Final soil preparation, cultivation, fertilizer. The middle of the month is the time for planting spinach, lettuce, parsley, dill, radish, carrots, onions, peas. The end of the month - the planting of seedlings of early cabbage, which must be protected from possible night frost with a film. It's time to spray and whitewash the trees, plant carnations, asters, ageratum on the flower beds. |
May | It's time for all types of planting and household work on the site. The beginning of the month is the planting of cold-resistant crops (turnips, carrots, peas, onions, parsley, dill). If warm weather is established, tomato, cucumbers, eggplant seedlings are transferred to the open ground, beets, beans, pumpkin, zucchini, and potatoes are planted. Time to mulch the soil, make sure there are no pests, sow annual flowers. |
June | The final planting of seedlings and planting in open ground. Pay attention to watering plants with a weak root system - radishes, spinach, lettuce, cucumbers, cabbage. It is important to thin out seedlings in order to promote their active development, to destroy insect pests. |
July | Mineral fertilizing and active care of plants to prevent drying out of the soil, damage by pests and overgrowing of the plot with weeds. Fruits are formed on previously planted plants, to maintain this process, pinching and pinching are carried out. For the second harvest, greens, radish, turnips, cauliflower, daikon, broccoli are planted, at the end of the month - sorrel, rhubarb, onions. Florists plant a nemophile, tritsirtis, delphinium. |
August | Ripening of vegetables, fruits, active harvesting, preparation for storage and processing for the winter. It is not too late to plant radishes, carrots, beets, onions on a feather, lettuce, greens, new trees and shrubs. For gardeners: to plant onion, transplant crocuses. |
September | Harvesting continues, the preparation of seed for the next season (preferably in dry weather for better preservation). Planting time "under the winter" of garlic, carrots, onions. If you plant greens and other vegetables, you should do this in a greenhouse. Florists can plant early flowers: tulips, crocuses, daffodils. |
October | Preparation of the site for the next season, preferably before frost. Time to dig up the ground, add fertilizers to produce, whitewash and warm the trees, plant new pears and apple trees, transplant perennials, hide frost-loving plants. If you plan to grow early vegetables - make humus. You can sow poppy, cloves, bells, scabiosis “in the winter”. |
November | Final completion of street work. It is necessary to remove the foliage, mulch the beds with perennial vegetables and frost-resistant crops. You can sow greens in the greenhouse or on the windowsill. |
December | Time to rest and take stock of the season. It is necessary to pay attention to the most productive varieties, to analyze what work brought a good result. You can update your inventory, after the snow falls - cover them with trunks of trees to protect the roots from frost. For particularly active gardeners, start planting quick-ripening vegetables in the greenhouse. |
Having decided on the month, you can look into the lunar sowing calendar for 2020 to select the most favorable days for the performance of various garden works.

Bad days
In the above tables of the lunar sowing calendar for 2020, the most favorable days are indicated. But this does not mean that you can’t plant anything at all on other days. The main thing is not to perform sowing and planting in adverse periods. Their list for different months of the year is shown in the table below:
February | March | April | May | June | July | August | September |
8-9, 21-22 | 7-8, 19-21, 24 | 3-4, 15, 17, 20, 22 | 1, 13, 14, 18-19, 29 | 9-11, 14, 16, 24-25 | 7-8, 11, 13, 21-22 | 3-4, 8, 9, 17-18 | 1, 4-5, 26-28 |
Moon phases
For a better understanding of the principles of formation of the lunar sowing calendar, it is important to know about the lunar phases. Depending on the visible state of the moon in the sky, 4 phases are determined. For each of them there are recommendations on manipulations with plants or work that should or should not be done.
New moon
The satellite is not visible in the sky. The turning point when all metabolic processes freeze.Any garden work is not recommended (especially planting, transplanting, pruning), so you can take time to relax. Also valid:
- remove damaged, dry parts of plants, trees;
- engage in the destruction of pests;
- weed the beds.
Height
The edges of the lunar disk "look" to the right. The metabolism in the aerial parts of plants is activated, the risk of root damage is reduced. The period is ideal for:
- planting crops with fruiting ground (cucumbers, peppers, melons, herbs, fruit trees, flowers, herbs);
- transplantation and tying;
- all types of earthwork (digging, hilling, loosening);
- foliar top dressing.
But when deciding to engage in pruning or grafting plants, there is a high risk of losing them in the future.
Full moon
Visibility of the full moon disk. This is directly the date of the appearance of the full moon, as well as the preceding and following days. Another turning point, which is not recommended for most work on the beds, is permissible except for earthworks, collecting root crops, laying them for long-term storage (but heat treatment with the full moon is not recommended). Categorically it is not necessary to engage in planting, tying or grafting plants, loosening beds.
Decrease
The sharp ends of the moon are directed to the left. The period of "decrease" of metabolism in the direction of the root system. It is unfavorable for cultivating land and transplanting crops. But you can confidently do:
- planting crops with an “underground” crop (beets, potatoes, onions, carrots, Jerusalem artichokes, etc.) and bulbs;
- thinning out the beds;
- division of perennials;
- harvesting weeds;
- watering and top dressing the soil;
- planting new trees, shrubs, grafting, pruning and forming existing ones.
It is easy to distinguish between the decreasing and growing phases of the satellite by mentally attaching a pen (pencil) to its sharp edges. The letter “P” is visible - the moon is growing, its mirror-image is decreasing.
The lunar phases of different days throughout 2020 are shown in the table below.

The influence of the constellations
One of the most important indicators of the lunar calendar for 2020 is the position of the Earth's satellite in the zodiac constellation. It has an even more decisive influence on the course of metabolic processes in plants than the lunar phases.
If the moon phase is not suitable for a certain type of work, then they should be performed on the last day the satellite is in the constellation favorable for the chosen work. Thus, the effect of the wrong phase will be minimal.
Each of the constellations has its own energy, which contributes to the development and reproduction of plants (the so-called fertile signs) or, conversely, has a negative effect.
