The employees of the hydrometeorological center have already announced what weather will prevail in Russia in the winter of 2019/2020. According to preliminary forecasts, residents of Siberia should not expect unpleasant surprises. Weather forecasters promise that Siberians have three moderately cold and snowy winter months ahead.
Features of the Siberian winter
The territory of Siberia is very large, it is located in three climatic zones. So, for Eastern Siberia a temperate and cold climate is characteristic. This area is located in the center of the continent of Eurasia and is very remote from the oceans. Winter is almost always clear and frosty due to the often prevailing anticyclones from Asia.
Southern Siberia is an alternation of ridges and intermontane basins with a very harsh climate. A vast territory stretching for 2500 km from the Arctic Ocean to the dry steppes of Kazakhstan and 1500 km from the Urals to the Yenisei is occupied by Western Siberia. The climate here is mainly continental, due to the impact of air masses of Arctic origin. In the south of Western Siberia during the winter months, temperatures rarely drop below -15 ° C. While in the north, severe frosts are often up to - 45 ° C.
The Siberian territory is not characterized by a large amount of winter precipitation. There are areas where snowdrifts are very rare, while the frosts are quite severe. Even in the most “snowy” regions the snow thickness does not exceed 55 cm. Although there are exceptions. So, in 2018, incessant snowfalls led to drifts on roads and the overlapping of federal highways. In the Tomsk, Kemerovo regions and in the Altai Republic, the snow cover was 73 cm. Such heavy precipitation was caused by the movement of the cyclone, which came from the northern regions of Western Siberia, from the Kara Sea.
The record for the lowest temperature in the village was set at the "pole of cold" in Oymyakon. In February 2013, the thermometer bar dropped to minus 71 degrees. The previous record was set in 1933 in the same city - minus 68 ° C.
Winter in Siberia: new season
Observation data for the past six months has been collected, and based on their analysis, the hydrometeorological center has already made a long-term forecast for the winter of 2019-2020. Presumably, the climatic winter throughout Russia will come somewhat later than the calendar one. But significant deviations of the temperature background from the norm are not expected. What can not be said about the autumn months. Following heavy rain, with heavy rains and wind, the first frosts will come. In October, abnormal cooling should be expected. But earflaps and felt boots will not come in handy soon, as already in November it will be warmer than usual.
According to research, lingering and extreme cold weather in Siberia, however, as well as throughout Russia, is not expected. But weather forecasters warn that this year will not do without temperature swings. Sudden jumps from the thaw to short, extreme frosts are possible from December to the first spring month. In general, moderately cold snowy winter awaits Siberians.
The warmest winter in Siberia, in the entire history of meteorological observations, was the winter of 2015. A positive seasonal temperature anomaly was 4-7 degrees.
Monthly weather
Meteorologists “long-term” on the basis of data collected by weather stations do not predict anything supernatural for the next six months. According to the annual tradition, winter will show its agility in Siberian lands already in mid-October.But the abnormal cold will not last long in the territories from the south of Siberia to Komsomolsk-on-Amur. Autumn frosts will quickly recede, and the temperature on the thermometers will return to baseline values. In November, throughout Russia, weather conditions will remain within normal limits. On the coasts of the Irtysh and Omi, the average night temperature will be set at 2-4 degrees with a minus sign, in the daytime the thermometer will also drop slightly below zero.
December will begin with light rainfall in southern Siberia. In the first decade of the month, nighttime temperatures will be in the range of -10 ° C. In the afternoon, the weather will be conducive to walking - a barely noticeable wind and 5-6 degrees with a minus sign. Starting from the 20th day of the month, winter equipment will be useful to residents of the Siberian expanse. On the street frosty but cloudy days will be established. Snow cover, according to weather forecasters, will finally fall by the beginning of January. The greatest frosts, as always, will be in January. Winter will test the strength of the inhabitants of one of the coldest regions of the globe. Forecasters predict that in some regions the air temperature will drop below -30 ° C. And in the Yakutsk region below - 40 ° C.
February, according to a long-term forecast, will be the most volatile month of the coming winter. Solar thaws in the southern regions of Siberia will be replaced by severe frosts in the northern regions. Spring in 2020, according to weather forecasts, will come into its own precisely according to the calendar. In March, temperatures can exceed average values and please Siberians with long-awaited heat.
