Since Father's Day in Russia is an unpopular holiday, many people do not know when it will be celebrated in 2020. Some activists consider this wrong, since all the popes deserve no less attention than mothers. They also take part in the upbringing of children and their material support.
When celebrate
It is impossible to answer unequivocally what date Father's Day will be in Russia in 2020. The fact is that there is no single date for the celebration, so there may be differences in different regions. For example, in the Altai Republic it is celebrated on the last Sunday of April, and in the Arkhangelsk region on the third Sunday of November. In other words, the date is determined at the regional level.
In the USA and some other countries, popes are congratulated on the third Sunday of June. International Father's Day in 2020 will be celebrated on June 21. Although some states have a fixed date:
- March 19 - Italy, Spain, Portugal;
- August 8 - Taiwan;
- December 26 - Bulgaria;
- June 23 - Poland;
- December 5 - Thailand.
In Moscow, St. Petersburg and many other Russian cities, popes are honored on the third Sunday of June. Activists from the Union of Fathers have repeatedly appealed to officials to make the holiday official. In 2018, deputy Tamara Pletneva even introduced the corresponding bill to the State Duma for consideration. She suggested making Father’s National Day last Saturday of December. The deputies did not support the proposal, so the holiday never gained official status.
How it all began
For the first time, Fathers Day was celebrated in the United States more than a century ago. The initiator of this event was Miss Dodd, who was born and raised in a small American town. She wished to honor the memory and work of her father. After the birth of the sixth child, the wife died, so the man had to raise his own children. The family lived on a farm, experienced difficulties, but the father put his soul into his children, surrounded them with care and love, which earned them respect and reverence.
In 1966, the date of the holiday, the third Sunday of June, was officially approved by the American president. Gradually, other states in different parts of the world joined the tradition of honoring the work of fathers. In Russia, this tradition appeared relatively recently - from the beginning of the 2000s. It is not known which city was the first to arrange holidays for dads, since different sources say differently. The list of "pioneers" should include Cherepovets, Novosibirsk, Lipetsk and Volgograd region. The number of settlements in Russia that celebrate Fathers Day is increasing annually, so it is possible that in 2020 it will be held at the national level.
Now through the media, social networks and other channels is the holiday population. Activists and simply indifferent people disseminate information about him, organize concerts, festivals, charitable foundations. In their opinion, showing respect and reverence for the stronger sex who have children will help preserve family values.
Traditions and customs
Since the holiday is relatively young, there are no established traditions yet. Although in the Lipetsk region, popes are awarded the annual award "For loyalty to their father's duty", and some even financial assistance. For 5 years, Papa Fest has been held in Moscow, a festival dedicated to fathers and families.Within its framework, they organize a joint pastime with men with children (games, exercises, quizzes), competitions, contests, lectures, etc. The festival program is rich, and admission is free, so anyone can become a participant.
In other Russian cities, as part of the celebration, they arrange:

An entertainment program is arranged for fathers and their children, and interactive platforms are arranged. Valuable prizes and cash bonuses are usually prepared for single dads and heads of large families.
Many families congratulate their men on Father's Day. Usually, a festive table is set for them, be sure to cook your favorite dishes. From the family, words are heard with sincere wishes for good health, happiness and prosperity. To make dad nice, you should prepare a gift in advance. It can be a purse, alcohol, useful accessories for cars, tools, etc. It is not necessary to buy an expensive present.
