Another horror story about whether there will be an end to the world in 2020 has its roots in Isaac Newton. The great physicist approached this question from a scientific point of view, mathematically calculating the predictions of John the Theologian. According to other sources, the scientist spoke of the year 2060, the onset of which will not be so soon.
But besides Newton, the idea of apocalyptic 2020 is supported by other fatal predictions.
The science
The opinion of modern astrophysicists in a sense coincides with Newtonian, in any case, part of the proposed decade. Relatively realistic for the end of the world, they assume the year 2068, when the Earth collides with the asteroid Apophis (2004 MN4). The marking of the celestial body is directly related to the year it was discovered in 2004, and the name is with the ancient Egyptian god of chaos and the darkness of Apopus (in the Egyptian transcription “apophis”). An asteroid 300-400 meters across and weighing 200 million tons. Collision with him has been postponed several times: the first date is 2029, the second is 2036, and according to the latest calculations of astrophysicists, mankind can sleep peacefully until 2068.
The first date of the collision on April 13, 2029 was supposed to be the most probable, but additional calculations proved that the celestial body will pass at a distance of 40 thousand kilometers. Earthlings will be able to “admire” such a spectacle in the night sky even with the naked eye. But it is precisely such a close passage from our planet that scares scientists who study the motion of celestial bodies. The influence of gravity can change the initial trajectory of the asteroid, then there are two options for the development of events:
- Apophis will continue on the original path.
- The celestial body will deviate from its course, and scientists will again calculate its new possible trajectories.
But while the likelihood of such a collision has significantly decreased, if in 2013 the chances of the inevitability of the event were 1 in 45,000, then now only 1 out of 250,000.
Politics
If you rely on political world trends, then the likelihood of a fatal end to the world is most inevitable when a nuclear war breaks out. The aggressive course of the North American political community establishes a global confrontation between the two most powerful nuclear superpowers. In the immediate plans of America’s military strategists, by 2020 a complete rearmament of the complex of ballistic intercontinental missiles was established. Putting into operation new types of previously unused types of bombs. What is repeatedly and openly announced in the American and European media.
The outbreak of war, taking into account the power and effectiveness of modern weapons, will be the real end. Two mutually proportional blows will be enough to destroy not only humanity, but also life on the planet as such.
An additional prerequisite for the involvement of America in the war, if not on its territory, then in a certain region, certainly, analysts consider the impending next financial crisis. Its term is named exactly 2020. The IMF and other financial institutions predict that the economies of leading countries will fall by less than 20%, which is detrimental to the United States, and the war is a wonderful “distracting” maneuver for them, which has already been worked out several times.
The prophecies
If we ignore the scientific premises and calculations of scientists and the financial and political confrontation, then there are several other options for the end of the world in 2020: religious, prophetic, natural or man-made.

“Superstitious”, religious, and simply suggestible people turned to the predictions of Nostradamus, the Holy Matrona of Moscow, the Bulgarian clairvoyant Wang, and even the forecast of the Australian programmer Jay Foresterr. But not one of these oracles designated the year 2020 as the period of the coming end of the world.
Nostradamus
A doctor, doctor of sciences and an astrologer in one person, speaking about the events of the future during the third decade of the second millennium, described these:
- in 2020, China will lead the global community;
- in the period 2020-2030, scientists will discover ways to extract energy based on sound phenomena that will solve the energy problems of the planet;
- in 2024, humanity will master new ways of extracting useful mineral resources in the underwater part of the Earth.
St. Matrona Moscow
The predictions of the blessed blind are not distinguished by their accuracy and clarity. The last prediction is confused and blurry. The saint did not give the exact date for the end of life of everything on the planet; she only mentioned the end of faith in God. But in her words, the researchers find a double meaning when Matron foreshadowed a “war without war”: in the evening the earth will be littered with lifeless bodies, and by morning the world will be cleansed. On the one hand, there is a fall in faith in Christ, and on the other, an outbreak of a virus that will take away the physical lives of people.
Vanga
Specifically for 2020, the Bulgarian seer did not predict anything, her last prediction concerned 2019. She, like Nostradamus, predicts China's world domination. But by what ways and means the Celestial Empire will seek it, Vanga did not describe.
The way of expressing her forecasts is also not accurate and capacious. The phrases were metaphorical and ambiguous. However, if we assume that China will try to lead the world through military expansion, then the end of the world can be feared with a certain degree of probability.
Jay Forrester and his “World One” car
The Australian programming pioneer who created the forecasting machine is also known among the forecasters, but it is difficult to literally call it an oracle. “World One” was created as a device predicting the future on the basis of the past of all mankind and the ways of its possible development.
The device predicted the collapse of humanity for 2040, but 2020, according to the analysis of “World One”, will be a watershed on the way to the final collapse. It is then that global overpopulation, the depletion of all types of resources and an ecological finish will begin to be felt.
Probabilistic apocalypses also include phenomena such as floods, earthquakes, tsunamis, melting glaciers and subsequent flooding of coastal regions, and fires. If we consider such local manifestations of natural phenomena, then the end of the world really comes for certain inhabitants of the Earth with enviable regularity.
