The film "Only One Life" with the working title "Steel" will be released in 2020, although the shooting has been going on for a long time. Not a lot of funds were allocated for the project, so the filming process was delayed. A public gathering of extra money was even announced. The picture tells about the history of the Great Patriotic War, and specifically about the personal drama of the captain of a battle tank.
Plot
There are two timelines in the picture. The first takes place today and talks about a 10-year-old boy named Sasha, who, like all modern schoolchildren, is passionate about computer games. Tanks are his favorite arcade: he plays them constantly, upsetting his mother with the backwardness of the educational process and the lack of interest in other things. To somehow cheer up her son, the mother decided to take him to the village, deciding that in the fresh air away from the Internet, the boy would be distracted from virtual games. At first, Sasha was unhappy: he plays the “last battle” on the tablet on the way to the village. Once in the fresh air, the boy goes for a walk. Having lost his way, he stumbles upon an abandoned BT-7 tank during World War II, and finds in it a diary of the captain of a combat vehicle.
The second timeline of the film “Just One Life” refers the viewer in 1941-1945, when the plot is conducted on behalf of the same captain named Nikolai Moroz. In his diary, not only a description of the military operations of that time, but also touching messages from his beloved Katya. The lines are saturated with pain, because the officer understands that they are unlikely to see each other again. After all, his crew was ambushed, and it can not be ignored, because this would mean betrayal. The brave captain decides to rush into battle to defend the homeland and comrades.
Sasha enthusiastically reads the diary, and his worldview is changing. He begins to understand what a real man, protector, hero should be like. The boy overcomes his fear (he got lost, and it's already night on the street), following the example of his correspondence comrade ... Two personal exploits intersect, despite an interval of more than 70 years.
Appeal to history
The plot is based on real events. He tells about one of the first major tank battles that took place at the very beginning of the war on July 9, 1941 in Belarus near the city of Senno. The battle is also known as the Lepel counterattack (by the name of the city where the main tank troops were sent - Lepel). The battle ended in defeat for the Soviet Union, but it became indicative in terms of heroism and the shown courage of soldiers and officers.
The exact release date of the film “Just One Life” is still unknown. The authors of the picture decided on only the year 2020. It is likely that the premiere will be in July, in memory of the lost, but such an important battle near Senno.
Idea
The plot related to the tanks was not chosen by chance. The creators of the picture relied on the craze of modern teenagers and adult men for online tank games, so they predicted that there would be many interested viewers. In the film “Only One Life” there are really many scenes of tank battles resembling computer games, so arcade lovers will certainly appreciate the work of the cameramen and director.
The purpose of the authors of the film is to once again demonstrate to the current generation the amazing courage and unbending will of their compatriots.Show how desperately they fought for their homeland, how much they valued honor and did not lose their dignity. Of course, they did all this not without fear, which can also be seen in the picture. The war has just begun. Nikolai Moroz realizes that he has only one life and is struggling with his worries, but at the time of making the decision, he is convinced that it is the only right one. It’s not for nothing that the film’s slogan is: “Even steel can be bent, but never human will.”
The movie trailer is already there, but it looks more like a protracted teaser. It shows the beginning of the story of how a boy and his mother go to the village. Then shots of tank battle are shown. And against the background are the lines from the captain’s letter to his girlfriend. “Hello, my Katya. Today they smashed another Nazi column. It's a shame that we did not do everything, but we did everything we could. Our comrades will chase the enemy, who should not walk on our land. I would never have lived my life if it weren’t for you, Katya ... ”These are excerpts from a real letter that was found in a wrecked tank near Senno. Only the girl's name was Barbara, and she received this letter only 30 years after the end of the war.

Camera crew and cast
Filming takes place in the vicinity of St. Petersburg, as well as in Belarus. The film crew even managed to meet with local residents, who also partially contributed to the creation of the picture, talking about the battle near Senno. For director Alexander Ezhber, “Only One Life” is just the second film in a row. Prior to that, he shot only one picture of “Tears of Anger” (2013). And in the genre of military drama for him, this is a debut.
Nothing is known about the actors of the 2020 film “Just One Life”. There is only information that one of the roles will be played by Vladimir Menshov. It will be unclear whether he will be one of the officers, or will turn out to be a character from the present (for example, Sasha’s grandfather). There will be no more famous actors in the film: the main roles will be played by young, yet unknown talents.
