The composition of the hockey club "Salavat Yulaev" for 2019-2020 was significantly changed, new names appeared on the lists. Large-scale replenishment is explained by the fact that last season the Ufa club showed itself not from the best side. The 6th place of hockey players from Bashkiria in the Eastern Conference championship cannot be called successful.
In a series of playoff games in the 1/8 finals with a score of 4: 1, they were defeated by a team from the neighboring republic of Tatarstan, AK Bars. The senior management of HC has always taken a position of intolerance towards losses and it is not surprising that the reaction was appropriate at the end of the season: head coach Igor Zakharkin left his post, and the Salavat Yulaev 2019-2020 team was substantially updated.
Club transfers
At the time of writing, the main skeleton of the players has already been formed, but replenishment by other eminent athletes is not excluded. Now the team for the upcoming season is replete with new names. The composition of the defenders was supplemented by F. Larsen from the NHL (Vancouver) and M. Osipov from the “Torpedo”. New hitters:
- I. Zubov;
- J. Kemppainen;
- D. Kubalik;
- E. Gimatov.
Young goalkeeper Andrei Kareev came from HC Neftekhimik. Z. Arzamastsev, M. Goncharov, I. Makarov, T. Khartikainen, I. Lazarev, S. Khripunov, E. Lisin do not leave the Salavat Yulaev for 2019-2020, because the contract has been extended with them.
At the end of the championship, 13 professional athletes left the hockey club, becoming either free agents or signing a contract with other HCs.
The place of the head coach was taken by Fin Errka Westerlund, who has extensive experience. Previously, he served as the coach of the Finnish national youth and adult league team. He also directed "Jokerit", periodically appearing in the playoff of the Western Conference with a deliberately weak team. The Finnish specialist must modernize the game’s policy and bet on new players of Salavat Yulaev’s squad to achieve better results than their predecessor.
Goalkeepers
Swede Niklas Svedberg left the team, because on the goalkeeper's place he did not show a decent level at the important stages of the playoffs and regular competitions. His personal statistics are almost 90% of saves with 3 goals conceded per match (an average of 48 meetings was taken). For any self-respecting goalkeeper, these are unacceptable numbers, especially for a defender of the club’s goal, who claims to reach the final of significant world and European championships.
In his place came Andrey Kareev, who is now 24 years old, of course, it is unlikely that we will see him as the main goalkeeper due to age, but in place of a substitute and a replacement hockey fans will see him more than once. Among the new players of Salavat Yulaev 2019-2020, there are three more young goalkeepers under the age of 24, but they were sent to the youth and adult leagues to gain experience.
Against the backdrop of Svedberg’s failed performance and the lack of a reliable line of defense from experienced athletes, one of the key goals of the transfer window is goalkeepers.Finding a good goalkeeper is not so easy, because he has a great responsibility and it is not for nothing that they say that his work is tantamount to the efforts of half the players. A worthy candidate who will be included in the new Salavat Yulaev for 2019-2020 was called Yan Kovarzha, but they did not succeed in snatching him from Metallurg (Magnitogorsk). Svedberg can not be exchanged for another goal defender either, because no one wants to take a player with such statistics into the team.
Defenders
The defense will also be significantly updated. In the 3rd and 4th links, young hockey players will guard the gates, all of them are completely from the 90s.Lack of proper experience will certainly affect the results. The composition also included old-timers who will teach their colleagues how to act in a given situation.
Forwards
If the defense is poorly equipped with “veterans”, then with the attack, “SJ” is fine. In the period between the seasons, thanks to successful transfers, we managed to get several successful strikers (Gimatov, Kubalik and Kemppanien) at once. Due to problems with the defenders, the purchase or exchange of new players in the attack can not be expected.
In the previous KHL championship, hockey players from Ufa scored 171 goals in 60 games. The work of the Hartikainen / Umaru team became one of the best in the goal / pass system, according to the results of the season they scored 100 points. If the new coach does not make serious adjustments to the attack, then in the new season we will have new and most importantly frequent goals.
Summing up, it remains to be noted that the new Salavat Yulaev 2019-2020 players are both talented young hockey players and eminent players with extensive experience. Some of them will surely be the opening of the championship.
