Planning to visit Tyumen this winter - find out what the weather will be like in the region according to weather forecasts in December, January and February 2019-2020.
Geographical features and climate of the region
Geographically, the Tyumen region is located in the west of the West Siberian Plain. The climatic conditions here are extremely harsh. In the south, the climate is close to continental (mixed forests and forest-steppes prevail), but as it approaches the pole it is replaced by subarctic and arctic (arctic deserts, tundra and forest-tundra prevail).
On the territory of the Tyumen region there are two administrative districts:
- Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug (Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug);
- Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug (Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area).
The districts of the Far North include: Beloyarsky and Berezovsky districts, the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug and Ugra, although the climatic conditions of many other regions of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug and Uvatsky District are very close to them.
The city of Tyumen itself is located in the southern part of the region of the same name in the continental climate zone. Winters are frosty and long. On average, the number of days with a stable minus temperature in the year is about 130, and the average temperature in the winter months ranges from -13ºС to -15 ºС, which is less severe than in most of the Tyumen region.
The absolute minimum recorded in Tyumen 12/26/1958, amounted to -49.2 ºС.
A climatogram will help to more accurately assess the weather conditions that can be taken for the region as the climatic norm.
The formation of weather in Tyumen is influenced by cold air masses coming from the West Siberian Plain, warm air moving from Kazakhstan, as well as the proximity of the river. Once the winters here were very snowy and severe. But under the influence of global warming, the climate has changed somewhat.
Typical for the Tyumen winter are:
- frosts moderate by the standards of the region (temperature rarely drops below -30 ºС);
- sudden changes in temperature;
- moderate rainfall (most of the rainfall in the region falls in the summer months);
- strong winds;
- rarely, but blizzards and snowstorms occur.
