In 2020, the film “Bathyscaphe” is expected to be released about deep-sea diving, military secrets and human heroism. Premieres of the picture will be eagerly awaited by lovers of stories about the underwater world, because there will be many episodes showing a frightening, but such alluring depth.
Plot
Since this is a catastrophe film, and it is called “Bathyscaphe”, it becomes approximately clear in advance what the plot will be about. The action begins that the American naval base sends the Bester bathyscaphe to rescue the wrecked submarine. There are nuclear weapons on board, so a sudden explosion cannot be allowed. And for the same reason, the operation is classified as “top secret”.
The Bester ship reaches its destination, and the American bathyscaphe dives to a kilometer depth where the submarine lies. The task is complicated by the fact that on board the sunken submarine are people who also need to be rescued. They cannot get out on their own because the rescue capsule is tightly blocked by reefs. The rescue crew of the bathyscaphe has a difficult task: to break through the hull of the submarine and load the sailors on the Bester.
Everything could have ended safely, if not for the love triangle between the charming bathyscaphe employee, commander and chief engineer. Clarification of relations among men leads to a serious quarrel and a fight, as a result of which the Bester’s electronics are disabled, and now the crew of the rescue vessel also needs help. Moreover, they urgently need it, because the oxygen supply is only enough for a few hours.
Luckily, a Russian warship is drifting nearby. The Americans have no choice but to ask them for help. The Russians meet them, having decided to try out their new deep-sea vehicle Mir, an analogue of modern bathyscaphes. A team of Russian sailors accepts the challenge and dives to a kilometer depth to save people.
Interest in the film
Many viewers, having heard that the film “Bathyscaphe” will be released in 2020, begin to think that it is dedicated to the 75th anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War. But the first prototype of the bathyscaphe was created in 1957 by Jacques Yves Cousteau. A full immersion was first carried out only in 1974. So the events in the movie "Bathyscaphe" will take place approximately today. It will be interesting to look at the life of modern submariners.
Critics predict success for the film because it meets 3 criteria. Firstly, it is a disaster, and the viewer likes to tickle his nerves, worrying about saving the heroes and the world (do not forget that the picture also deals with nuclear weapons). Secondly, this is a joint work of the Russian and American film industry, and in view of recent events in the world, it will be interesting to look at what happened. Thirdly, this is a movie about the unknown. The audience likes films about the mysterious cosmos and about the mysterious depth, because not everyone is able to see in reality what is happening there.
Judging by the trailer, which shows a considerable part of the plot, the bulk of the filming has already been completed. And from underwater beauty is already breathtaking. The slow movement of deep-sea vehicles, darkness, silence and silence of depth - this is very spectacular.

The young director of the film “Bathyscaphe” Alexander Tarasov has a modest portfolio: only 2 short films. Making a disaster movie after them is not easy, but it adds intrigue. Judging by the trailer, it turns out something fascinating and original. Therefore, Tarasov can already applaud in absentia. The list of actors who took part in the movie "Bathyscaphe" is not yet available. Attentive viewers can only recognize someone in the trailer.
Submersion is always a risk. A deep dive is a huge risk. You never know what might happen, but it is not always possible to keep a situation under control. And if you are also a commander, and you have responsibility not only for your life, but also for hundreds of strangers, you need to make decisions clearly and quickly. And you also need to deal with the emotions associated with the love drama. I wonder how the characters will cope, and whether they can get out of the sunken Bathyscaphe.
Other films about the underwater space
The beauty of the underwater depths did not leave indifferent other directors who decided to make films about it. The recently released fantasy Meg: The Monster of Depth (2018) also partially touched on this topic. And although the plot was based on the confrontation between a man and a 23-meter shark, almost all the actions take place on board the sunken bathyscaphe. Filming took place both in open water and in special tanks, but the actors had a hard time: they dived and swam, swam and dive. And there was always a team of divers and a team of doctors. Filming the movie “Bathyscaphe” is also fraught with difficulties, so the release date is set only for 2020. It takes a lot of work.
If we talk about depth, I recall another Russian film “72 meters” (2004). There is no talk of a bathyscaphe: the submariners were trapped when their submarine Slavyanka was drowning due to the explosion. The ship is gradually flooding, the sailors are dying one by one. Exciting drama with an open ending. In the movie “Bathyscaphe” there will also be scenes of flooding of the compartments, but thanks to more developed special effects it should turn out very spectacular.
