Subaru introduced the new Legacy 2020, and today we offer to evaluate the first photos of an elegant 7th generation sedan, as well as find out what the configuration and price of the new item on the European market will be.
Model history
The history of the Subaru Legacy car began back in 1987, when the first sedan and station wagon cars came off the assembly line. For more than 30 years of history, the company has already released 6 generations of the model that have attracted attention with such undeniable advantages as:
- stylish classic design;
- excellent quality of materials;
- excellent technical characteristics;
- optimal set of options;
- affordable price.
In recent years, interest in the Subaru brand sedans has declined significantly in all markets. So, in the whole of 2018, only 219 Legacy cars were sold in the Russian Federation. Partly this situation is associated with an increase in interest in the SUV class, partly with the entry into the market of new inexpensive brands that are ready to offer the potential buyer the most advanced options at affordable prices. The closest competitors of the model include: Honda Accord, Ford Mondeo, Toyota Camry. And if you consider the car a little more expensive, then: Hyundai Sonata, Kia Optima and Mazda6.
The new model of the 7th generation Legacy, introduced in February 2019 in Chicago, which should appear in car dealerships closer to the beginning of 2020, should correct the situation.
Exterior
Externally, the Subaru Legacy 2020 model did not receive significant updates. Easy face lifting brought fresh notes to the exterior, although at the same time the car retained the classic body design and recognizable features of its predecessor.
Of the updates worth noting:
- updated design of the front bumper;
- new mirrors;
- adaptive LED optics.
Nevertheless, the Subaru Legacy 7th generation, which will be released in 2020, will have a number of significant differences from its predecessor. And above all, this is the new modular SGP platform, thanks to which it was possible to achieve:
- increase in body stiffness by 70%;
- underestimation of the center of gravity;
- manageability improvements;
- interior noise reduction of 3 dB;
- changes in the dimensions of the car.

Interior
If the exterior of the Subaru Legacy 2020 model year has not changed much, then the interior of the car was completely new and, just look at the photo, it immediately becomes clear that the manufacturer offers a radically new level of comfort and functionality.
The main highlight of the new items will be a huge vertically located 11.6-inch monitor in the style of Tesla to control multimedia and navigation systems. Of course, such a luxury will be available in expensive trim levels of the car. For the basic version, a pair of 7-inch monitors is offered (separately for the multimedia system and HVAC climate control).
Also, future owners of new items can count on options such as:
- Nappa genuine leather trim in contrasting shades;
- convenient multi-wheel with large buttons;
- digital dashboard;
- panoramic sunroof;
- 12-volt sockets;
- A complete set of interfaces for connecting gadgets;
- modern climate system;
- LTE module with the ability to distribute Wi-Fi;
- Front View Monitor with a 180º view;
- acoustics with high-quality deep sound.
Specifications
The updated 2018-2019 Subaru Legacy will delight not only with external changes, but also with technical improvements, which can be estimated at the end of 2019 by ordering a test drive of a car from a dealer.
All modifications of Legacy in 2020 will be equipped with a symmetrical all-wheel drive system with traction vectorization and a rear axle clutch.
As experts predicted, in the line of power units of the new generation there will be no boxer V6 with a volume of 3.6 liters. The 7th generation engine range consists of two engines:
- 2.5-liter aspirated, in which the company's engineers replaced 90% of the components, achieving an increase in power up to 185 hp;
- 2.4-liter turbo four with 264 hp
Both power units will work in tandem with the updated and significantly improved V-chain drive variator of the Lineartronic model, in which a new hydraulic system is installed and the range of gear ratios is expanded.
The manufacturer promises that the 2020 Subaru Legacy version, equipped with new generation systems, will be more economical in comparison with the 6th generation model.
The car will also receive an impressive package of passive and active safety systems, including:
- adaptive cruise control;
- lane retention option;
- blind spot monitoring;
- driver monitoring system.
For the stability of the car will be responsible reliable McPherson struts with L-shaped levers and spring buffers, as well as a rear mnogoryichichka with a new anti-roll bar.
Price and start of sales
Sales of the next generation Subaru Legacy should begin in the United States before the onset of 2020, but for fans of this model in Russia, the news is less joyful. Most likely in the near future the novelty will not appear on the domestic market.
The manufacturer plans to introduce 6 trim levels:
- Base
- Premium
- Sport
- Limited
- Limited XT;
- Touring XT.
The XT prefix indicates a more powerful 264-horsepower engine.
There is no official information on the estimated price of the new Legacy yet. Given the new equipment of the model, it will exceed the cost of the 6th generation, which today starts in the US market from 22.5 thousand dollars (excluding tax rates on shipping costs).
