The film "Journey to India", which is expected to be released in early 2020, is waiting not only for fans of adventure thrillers, but also fans of the mystical genre. After all, this picture has another name ("Viy 3") and is a triquel based on the famous Gogol stories. But do not confuse this franchise with Gogol with Alexander Petrov in the title role. These are two completely different projects.
Communication with the first parts
In 2014, the film "Wii" was released jointly by Russia, Ukraine, Germany, Great Britain and the Czech Republic. Although the crew and among the actors were mostly Russians. The invited star of the cast was only Jason Fleming, who played the main character of the cartographer Jonathan Green. He went on an expedition to the Eurasian continent, passed Romania and ended up in Western Ukraine. There he was told a mystical story about the monster Viy, the little girl and Homa Brutus. Green himself witnesses the appearance of impure forces; an incredible story takes place with him. But upon his return to Moscow, all this seems to him to be a mental disorder or a dream.
The second part of Wii, entitled “The Secret of the Dragon Seal,” was due to appear at the box office in August 2018, but due to strict Chinese censorship, the prime minister was postponed to early 2019. The plot of the picture continues the story of Jonathan Green, who goes on a Far Eastern expedition on the instructions of Peter First: the emperor asks to make cards. Upon arrival, Green arrives in China, where he is faced with new adventures.
The budget of the first film amounted to 26 million dollars, and the rental collected 34 million. 46 million were spent on the second part, but it is planned that this money will pay off with interest, because many will want to see the amazing nature of China. About the same amount (about $ 40 million) will be spent on the “Travel to India” shootings, and again the shootings will take place in kind, so you can look forward to rubbing your hands in anticipation of the next geographical tour and exciting adventures with elements of mysticism.
There are no references to the film “Wii” in 1967 in “Journey to India” and the entire franchise. It's just that the mystical story of Nikolai Gogol is very popular, so he is interested in many directors.
The plot of "Travel to India"
After China, the creators of the franchise decided to send Jonathan Green to another exotic country. The cartographer, having fulfilled the task of Peter the Great, plans to return with a report to Russia, but fate throws him into the mysterious India. Green again has to fight against evil spirits. Fortunately, this time he is surrounded by many new friends whom he managed to make during the previous adventures.
Filming
The release date of the film "Journey to India" is set for 2020, but the shooting is still ongoing, so everything can change. Project producer Alexei Petrukhin said that some of the material was shot, but this is not enough for the trailer or for the teaser, so fans will have to wait a bit. But soon the second part of "Wii" about a trip to China will be released, so the viewer will be able to enjoy this picture for now.
Film crew
Oleg Stepchenko remains the director of the film Journey to India (Rewind Fishing Rods, 2004, Men's Season: The Velvet Revolution, 2005). This is very important for the trikvel, because experience with the first two parts is always useful for filming the third. The producer also remained the same - this is Alexey Petrukhin (Uchilka, 2015, To Be or Not to Be, 2011). They worked on the script together, relying on the works of Nikolai Gogol, as well as on the legends of India.
Cast
The role of Jonathan Green will continue to be played by Jason Fleming ("Cards, Money, Two Trunks", 1998, "Big Jackpot", 2000), who managed to fall in love with the viewer in the first part of the franchise. Even before the start of the first “Wii”, he successfully passed the casting, which went around Vincent Cassel, Keanu Reeves and Sean Penn. He compares his character with Indiana Jones, admires the thoroughness of working on films and takes pride in collaborating with a Russian director and producer.
It is known that for the filming of the third part, another Hollywood actor Mel Gibson was invited (“What Women Want”, 2000, “Braveheart”, 1995, “Mad Max 3”, 1985 ”), which should play one of the key roles. Which - has not yet been disclosed. Perhaps he will become the mystical character Jonathan Green will encounter during his trip to India.
