Belarus in 2020

Belarus in 2020

Belarus is confidently heading towards development, as indicated by an increase in gross domestic product, but 2020 could be a watershed. Presidential and parliamentary elections should be held in the country. In this regard, a change of power may occur, which will entail drastic changes. Despite this, experts based on the analysis of current events build their forecasts.

Belarus

WTO Accession

According to the latest news, in 2020 Belarus may join the World Trade Organization. This was announced at a conference in Gomel at the end of October 2018. The discussions and discussions held within the framework of the conference were attended by Belarusian experts, as well as guests from Kazakhstan and Russia.

The WTO (World Trade Organization) now has 164 countries. Since Belarus is a member of the Eurasian Economic Union, it exists according to the canons of the WTO, but it is the only country that is not part of it. An application for membership was submitted 25 years ago, but now real prospects are opening up. Since the accession process is rather laborious, it can be completed only in 2020.

For Belarus, joining the WTO is the opening of new opportunities, the development of economic and trade ties at the international level. As a result, the country's investment attractiveness will increase, and access to the markets of other states will open.

The accession process is quite complex and takes place in several stages. Now Belarus is negotiating to discuss the most favorable conditions in order to protect the domestic economy. In the near future it is planned to hold conferences in all regional centers in order to maximally inform the business segment of the upcoming changes and help in choosing the right course.

Agriculture Change

At the end of October, the Government of the Republic of Belarus approved a document on amendments to the economic development program, which was developed for 2016-2020. The main aspects relating to the economy, industry and other areas are preserved, and adjustments are aimed at improving, developing investment projects, opening up new opportunities for representatives from different industries.

The changes affected agriculture. The President noted that now the industry is not working effectively enough. If the cultivation of cultivated plants and the work of livestock enterprises are properly set up, the country will be able to completely abandon the import of products. This will happen gradually - first the quantity of imported products from abroad will be reduced, and after import, domestic products will be completely replaced.

In 2020, it is planned to implement several investment projects in agriculture. For example, it is planned to build a new poultry farm shop worth 5.16 million Belarusian rubles. More than 12 million will also be allocated for the construction of a goat-breeding center, as well as dairy production enterprises. In addition, the government wants to establish cooperation with direct manufacturers to improve product quality and reduce its price.

Transition to biometric passports

It is difficult to say unequivocally what Belarus expects in 2020, but this year could be a step in a new development. This applies not only to economics, industry, agriculture, but also to technology. The introduction of biometric passports has been postponed to 2020.Initially, this was supposed to happen earlier, but the process of integration of information systems was a little delayed.

The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs noted that everything is ready for the issue of ID-cards, but for now it will be “bare plastic”. It is necessary to create a single base to which all citizens can have access. Now only a document has been developed that regulates the creation of a single system. By 2020, employees will not sit in passport desks. Serving the population will be engaged in robotic machines, which are now already purchased in China.

A biometric passport will be used to travel abroad, and identification cards have been created to identify the person within the state. In the future, the Belarusian authorities plan to replace all documents with biometric ones.

Tasks

In general, Belarus sets pretty high standards. They are detailed by the government in the 5-year economic development program. By 2020, it is planned to achieve the following goals:

  • increase in salaries to state employees;
  • a ban on the disposal of unprocessed chemical waste;
  • increase in exports and decrease in imports;
  • introduction of information technology in the healthcare sector, the emergence of electronic medical records;
  • raising the minimum wage to improve the quality of life of citizens;
  • development of agribusiness, creation of new jobs, etc.

Now it’s hard to say whether Belarus will be able to achieve all its goals by 2020, although most experts agree that the state has good prospects if the actions of the authorities are aimed at developing industry and other industries.
